Apparently Eubank had a tantrum after.
I keep seeing Gordon Kaye bashing Eubank

If 2 lads have a dozen spars and one consistently comes out on top then it's pretty much guaranteed he would come out on top of they had a fight.Controversial wrote:Supremo wrote:This "sparring means poo" is utter nonsense. What better indicator of how a fight would go can you get other than sparring? of course it means something! just because someone wins a spar doesn't mean they will win a fight but it is complete and utter nonsense to say it means nothing. If anyone on here when in and sparred with Eubank Jnr would we get the better of him? of course we wouldn't! because he is a far better boxer than any of us (to my knowledge) on here.
Sparring can take place at different periods of individuals training camp which gives a massive adavantage to someone who is closer to fight night- but its just utter crap arguning that it carries no value whatsoever- usually said by someone who is hoping to convince others that they are more knowedgable than they are...
Sparring is important but I wouldn't put too much emphasis on who got the better of who. Sparring is practice after all, not a fight. Bigger gloves and some wear head guards. There are numerous examples of great fighters getting dropped and outboxed by journeymen, thats why there stories mean little.
Sparring ain't the be all and end all and it won't always replicate what happens in a fight but it's the best indication you've got to work on and to say it "means nothing" as rexrob said is utter rubbish and shows a complete lack of appreciation.
Wouldn't you want your fighter to execute whatever it was you were working on? You might be working on specific moves, footwork, defence, any number of things.slapbangwhallop wrote:Fitzy901 wrote:Of course it does, I have never understood that comment.Rexob wrote:Sparring don't mean shi.t
Likewise. Completely moronic to suggest sparring means nothing.
Sure, boxers might not be motivated, could be trying something out, not going 100% etc etc etc. But I know I’d rather my fighter “won” every spar rather than lost them.
As good an indicator to performance as you can get in boxing.
I agree 100% with all of that! I would imagine CEJ is the all or nothing type and would hate coming second though ( I will remind him of this next time he spouts a load of garbage on Twitter lolrhino222 wrote:my take on it is this.....
boxers treat sparring differently and ive been lucky enough to watch hundreds of rounds featuring some very big names over the years.
some boxers use sparring as an ego trip and view it as a tear up!
some boxers use it as a learning experience and practice cutting off the ring, sitting with their back against the ropes rolling and blocking and turning their opponent.
some barely throw a glove but just practice coasting and move up a gear the last 30 secs (a technique that has won Americans many world titles over the years)
some boxers give their all in sparring and take it personally if they get dominated
some boxers only give 40% in sparring, why leave all your best work in the gym? why risk cuts etc? why not use it as a learning experience?
That just about sums up all avenues to be honest. Are there people on this site that watch 'open workouts' and think wow, that guy is special?
Your right it is utter poo because the guy who bashes the other guy has a false sense of security going into the fight,as if he has already won then gets clobbered. Sparring is for timing and precision anyone who takes anything else from is an idiot and shouldnt be fighting, abit like charlie zeff(whatever his name is)Supremo wrote:This "sparring means poo" is utter nonsense. Firstly no one is sure if this actually happened, Richards is a super middleweight anyway and could end up moving to light heavy, secondly Richards was a quality amateur, hardly a rookie and Southpaw Richards has signed with Warren plus tipped for big things.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Yes there can be many mitigating factors to be taken into account when someone gets the better of you in sparring but whatever those factors are Eubank Jr didn't arrive at the gym that morning thinking I'm gonna get battered today.
For an egotist like him, taking a beating from a rookie must have been pretty hard to swallow no matter what the circumstances.

Andy Lee dropped David Price a couple of times?Wales wrote:Sparring stories.
Recent ones like Eubank Jnr dominating De Gale and Froch. GGG taking Kovalev apart. Price KOing Joshua. Andy Lee having to leave Price camp pre Thomson after dropping him 2 or 3 times. Fury getting beat up by an unknown (to me) cruiser.
Older ones like Spadafora dominating Floyd. Glenn McCory dropping Tysoe (or shaking him to his boots). 17 year old Floyd schooling Pernell Whittaker and 17 year old Jones Jnr taking SRL to school. There are hundreds of others.
Don't forget sparring is often with 16oz gloves and a head guard.
The main fighter often brings in an opponent with a certain attribute to work on a certain thing whilst "sparring opponent" goes into ring to box his own game.
The main guy has often done an hour or so training before getting in ring whilst sparring partner has often just warmed up
Main guy may be in shark tank. 3 or more different partners each doing round or two each in turn so fresh opponents for main guy every round.
fighters going to have off days , look at how many times top fighters lost against crap opponents in old days when fighting every couple days.
What happens in gym stays in gym. I've put it on national amateur champions for a round (usually only part of one to be honest) in the gym. Easier to do with nothing at stake and nice controlled environment
So he's only one weight division above Eubank then. He's a rookie in the pro game.[/quote]So was Groves when he fought Murray, weight divisions are there for a reason.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Firstly no one is sure if this actually happened, Richards is a super middleweight anyway and could end up moving to light heavy, secondly Richards was a quality amateur, hardly a rookie and Southpaw Richards has signed with Warren plus tipped for big things.Anzi wrote:
