Boxing is in the doldrums if a fight such as this sells.
Short term Bellend & Haye are happy - long term boxing as a sport suffers.

Boxing has always been about making as much money as possible; but the longevity of the sport has relied on the top guys wanting to prove themselves as the best in their division too.
Bellend is just cashing in before he has to face a serious test and loses the title; he is mediocre at best, and simply overachieved.
Haye was also an overachiever.

This type of match up, if made, just highlights why boxing is dying.

Catch weight is stupid, if bellend thinks he can beat haye then why not step to heavyweight full stop. Having a catch weight on benefits bellew, because it will take more for hate to drain down to a 210 limit given the last time he was that low was when he spanker chisora. His last 2 fights he came in at 227. Bellew will come well inside that and haye will have to drain.

If bellew calls out haye, he should step up and meet him, he can still be 210 if he wanted but it allows haye to be what he wants which is fair in the heavies, how much weight did haye give up to wlad, valuev and Audrey?

If bellew demands a catch weight then pulls out he will lose face.

Well it's a "grudge match", it sells.

I'd actually be glad to see Haye come in a sleek 210 after the last couple of fights where he didn't even look fully fit.

Bellew's on a good run, avenging Cleverly, winning a title and scoring some decent KOs (Brudov, Makabu, Flores). At least he gets to business without wasting too much time. It's the only time in his career to attract a big fight.

Would've preferred 205 catchweight, Bellew would carry that weight a bit more gracefully and there'd be a chance of weight drain for Haye, some decent handicapping in Bellew's favour.

I just hope they found the correct middle ground for it actually to be a fight, not a destruction.

Novelty fight with big publicity will keep Haye current, without having to face top 10 heavyweights, for a domestic rivalry with Joshua.

This entirly,, its a novelty fight if you pay to see live , it or buy the ppv , well don't complain , its what it is, a novelty fight to grab the cash , .. On the other hand if a promoter , wants to waste money or gamble money to bring novelty fights instead of real ones , then stream it , don't pay and don't give a shit if said promoter loses money ... Whilst your prepared to pay for shite , they will serve shite up ,, simple really

This does not need to be a PPV. Sky Sports should be fine..

Knowing Hearn though, he will expect us to folk out.

Bellew could come in at any weight he likes as long as it's above 200 & below 210.

Haye would have to weigh in at 210 & then it's on.

Still a farce of a fight in my opinion, but at least it would be a step up for Haye who has been feasting on rotting corpses since he returned.

Sadly it is a 100% pay per view, massive, casual friendly, pub filling blockbuster. The catchweight, which really isn't that far off Haye's normal fighting weight at HW, is there more to give the illusion of competitiveness than to handicap Haye. Bellew has probably been told to go and move some iron in the four months or so before the fight, so he can at least look the part, Adamek style. If Bellew is a flabby beanpole and Haye a chiselled Adonis, the circus will be too obvious for our casual fan: if Bellew puts on a bit of gym muscle and looks beast like at the weigh in, ker-Ching, a million billion pay per views. Look at Haye-Audley: they can sell snow to the Eskimos, sand to the Arabs. Haye will slouch in the head to heads, have some converse on, Bellew steps in his shoes to make him look bigger (just look like they did with Audrey)...

I bet you by fight week we will have respected boxrec posters picking Bellew.

I personally don't care. This year has been mostly so dreary, the only people that have had fun are the casuals. I may join them for the ride with this one.

I'd like Haye to get the weight wrong, come in drained & sluggish and have to rally back from a serious knockdown to win, something like that.

Don't want Bellew to embarrass himself.

haye was a world amateur medalist and hot cruiserweight prospect before Carl Thompson derailed him in an upset. Wouldn't call Haye an overachiever.

It's a typical potential Haye fight.

He's always likes to fight opponents by 'public demand'.

I wonder what he'd do if the the public demanded that he fight Luis Ortiz in an eliminator?

Saying that, this surely cannot happen, as he'd be ridiculed until the end of time, because he can't win either way.

If he blows Bellow out, he'd have beaten an overmatched cruiserweight; if he struggles, then he's a laughing stock & a fraud.

The only reason to take this fight is for money & I'm not so sure it's even the most lucrative fight out there for him.

Tony Bellew vs Audley Harrison: Who wins?

For me Bellew is far less of a joke of an opponent than Harrison was. At least Bellew is a world class cruiserweight.

So I don't see why Haye wouldn't take this fight unless he thinks that Bellew will actually beat him.

If he was a world class cruiser he would fight other world class cruisers instead of avoiding the cruisers that will beat him. I mean he is the most devastating cruiser to have roamed the planet. Only place bellew is the best cruiser around is in his head.

He's chasing the biggest money fight available.

Bellew has no record of being a ducker. He doesn't deserve to be labelled as such.

He'd claim his shoulder is playing up again, announce his retirement and leave the country.

I agree. He was an elite level cruiserweight, do doubt about it. Thompson was the underrated one if anything.

But why does he want to chase the biggest money fight instead of facing cruisers? If he was as good as he says he would be fighting bredis, uysk, lebedev then chasing a cash in fight.

He knows he fights one of them and gets beaten easily hye will laugh at him.

I might be way out of line here but bellew vs Haye imo is just a charity fund raiser for bellew and a good bit of pantomime for Haye..

Am I missing something?

Haye hasn't done anything in years and might not be very good anymore.

Haye's getting a bit overrated on here, although that's been the case for the last decade or so anyway.

True; but overall he had more than bellew, unless he's lost quite a bit, you'd have go with Haye.

As a heavy Haye wasnt great. His best win was valuev who side aside had little to offer.

Yea it's hard defending Haye, let's face it he's spent 100x more time in the jungle than in the ring!

However he is not only a great athlete but also a wonderful talent and unlike many he does train and leaves no stone unturned. He's small for heavyweight in this day and age and I don't think anyone can argue he's made a good fist of fulfilling his potential.

Still again it's pure pantomime from Haye since the wlad loss and certainly he's not had any meaningful fights ( beyond defeating panto villains on Dave) for 4 years..

I still believe in him thought! I might be bonkers but I think he's the most talented boxer at heavyweight even now, that does not mean he's the most effective as he does lack some of the physical advantages others enjoy.

Bellew on the other hand seems limited to me.. WBC cruiserweight champoion is a wonderful achievement and not to be disrespected but I just can't get excited about his boxing talent.

If there are secret skills I'm missing regarding bellew please fell free to point them out :TU:

Its only a big fight to clowns, I don't know anyone who thinks bellew has a remote chance of winning including casuals who though brook would win v GGG.

No he shouldn't fight haye first, he should set out to prove himself the best at his weight before cashing in. But he won't because like all sports its £££ before glory.

Bellew has a chance against Haye.

Since when is Haye so bloody amazing? Bellew would be one of his biggest wins.

Do you chase glory before money?

Beating David Haye would be pretty glorious.
