Wilder's stoppage loss in amateurs

Post by boxing_rocks »

It wasn't one lucky punch. Wilder's opponent was consistently hurting him.

This is such a long time ago, I heard Povetkin once lost in a fair way in his amateurcarreer as well. Sadly, nobody could show me the footage and wiki said all of his loses were discutable. But look at Kreisnot for example, he clearly improved a lot recently.

That's why Wilder has been so afraid of fighting Povetkin. :OhYes:

Actually, during this US Olympic team ttip to Russia Wilder outboxed the future Olympic Gold medalist Chachkiev. Romanov didn't go to Olympics. Both Chachkiev and Romanov were much more experienced amateurs than Wilder...

The point is - Wilder has a glass jaw.

Not at all. He took shot after shot and still got up.

No, the point is that you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Thanks for making a special thread so everyone can see it clearly.

He was taking shots while wearing headgear from a cruiserweight wearing uncomfortable amateur gloves. Imagine if it was in professionals against a bigger man.

Wilder definitely doesn't have a glass jaw, but it isn't great either.

His jaw is exactly the reason they are trying so hard to avoid good opponents.

Based on your logic, anyone that has been rocked badly or KO'd in the amateurs has a glass jaw.

And can we also post videos of the beloved Anthony Joshua getting knocked out in the amateurs, proving that HE HAS A GLASS CHIN TOO.

And what about being sent to dreamland (in sparring, no less) by the dreaded David Price?

In comparison, AJ may make Amir Khan appear to have a granite jaw.

And the usual suspects here rail about Wilder not fighting anyone.

So of course Joshua signs to battle Eric Molina, a man Wilder already pummeled and destroyed last year.

It appears AJ is also being protected, right?

Wouldn't want to risk his own glass chin being exposed.

Joshua may have a glass chin, and I would love to see any of his amateur fights proving so. He may also be somewhat protected after SEVENTEEN fights, while Wilder is still protected after THIRTY SEVEN. There is a reason why Joshua is above Wilder in boxrec rankings -- even at 17 fights, he had a better opposition than Wilder at 37.

From what I recall (in the amateur ranks), Mihai Nistor knocked Anthony Joshua from pillow to post, forcing the referee to stop the fight. Dilian Whyte hurt AJ repeatedly and even decked him. And Magomedrasul Medzhidov also hurt the Brit several times and wore him down to the point he was exhausted, whilst standing on unsteady legs.

I'm pretty sure Wilder had less than 10 amateur fights at this point and he was also a cruiser.

Shit logic regardless.

I mean dezi Ford beat oflh in the amateurs so I guess Ford must be an all time great.

And Larry Holmes supposedly had a glass jaw & no heart whatsoever after two ammy KO losses to Nick Wells & being run out of the ring by Duane Bobick in a DQ loss to Duane Bobick in the '72 Olympic Trials.

We don't have footage of Ali and Mike Tyson being stopped in the amateurs, and not because they weren't stopped.

Yes, Ali and Mike Tyson were stopped in the amateurs as I've mentioned. I believe so were Marciano and Joe Louis.

Yes, before emails, hidden mics, and hidden cameras, everyone would think Trump and Hillary were both beyond reproach. :OhYes:

Point being, if you take a microscope to anything, you're going to find dirt.

Who stopped Ali, Marciano and Joe Louis in the amateurs? I'm aware of Al Evans' KO victory over Mike Tyson.

Closer to 25-30, but still quite inexperienced. He's obviously a better fighter now.

Kent Green stopped a very young Cassius Clay in amateurs. Rocky was 8-4. Not sure if he was stopped or it was just a wife's tale. Read Louis was beaten up badly very early on in amateurs.

Have the Klitschkos been stopped in amateurs? If so, probably hard to get on tape.
