Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
Ah okay I get ya. No there was a knockdown. It could be a draw with Ward winning 7-5 but accounting for the 10-8 round right? Maths isn't my strongest suit though by a long shot so I could be missing something totally obvious! Lol.Counter-puncher wrote:Ah, as you know I haven't seen it yet, just thought I saw.someone mention a KDlefty wrote:I don't think there was a point deducted? Plus I'm running on very little sleep which could be magnifying my mathematical shortcomings even more lol.

The judges scored it 7-5 to Ward but with the knockdown that meant 114-113.
If it was 6-6 Kov would have won 114-113. So a draw would have needed Kov to be deducted a point or have been KD.

Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
I thought Kov won at least 1 of the last 5 rounds so thought he won. It wasn't a particularly exciting fight though, one for the purists. I watched Creed again last night and the Creed-Conlan fight, now that was exciting! :)
Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
I did say maths wasn't my strongest suit
Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
Thought Ward nicked it in the final round 114 113 and trust me if I was being biased I would have leant towards Kovalev. The man deserves credit he picked himself of the deck to go onto win that.Fair play to him.

I still can't figure out how I came to a draw in my head : /

Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
Had ward winning a hard to score fight, was impressed with the way ward held his sh1t together and did what was needed to get the win
Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
I had scored a 10-10 round which negated the 10-8 round.Counter-puncher wrote:Ah, as you know I haven't seen it yet, just thought I saw.someone mention a KDlefty wrote:I don't think there was a point deducted? Going into the last I had Kovalev 1 up. I scored the last to Kovalev by a narrow margin, with it ending 115-113.
Had I given it to Ward I'd have given a 114-114 draw
I honestly expected more draws given the close nature of the fight and the fact people are split on the outcome
There was one round where the only meaningfull punches were 2 jabs by Ward and 1 from Kovalev, I think it was the 7th or 8th. I scored it for Kovalev based on trying to make something happen but you could easily have scored that level or to Ward

Simple. If you scored one of the rounds a 10-10, it could be a draw.
Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
Well it's good to know my maths has finally added up

There was plenty of justification to score some rounds even though.Counter-puncher wrote:But the knockdown makes scoring a draw almost impossible due to the point deducted?

I knew it would be a boring fight so I didn't bother to watch it. It's such a shame this is the best boxing has to offer at the moment. ![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
Riddick I think you called the first half of the fight perfectly. Did it surprise you how Ward managed to come back into it?
Did the wrestling take a lot out of Kov?

Re: Who won Ward Vs Kovalev
Thought the cards were crap.
I had Kovalev winning 1 2 3 4 5 & 10.
Of the rest of the rounds i thought most were close, i preffered Kovalevs agression over Ward's spoiling a grappling. He was also leg-hooking and forearm pushing. Even if i give all of the 6 close rounds to Ward the KD seals the deal.
Ultimately though i don't think either man excelled himself to that p4p #1 slot. I wanted to see Ward box Kovs ears off, or Kovalev spark Ward out, to cement a historic victory. Instead I think we got a messy affair with a close but wrong verdict. Unsatisfying all round imo.
