In my opinion Americans give compubox far more credit than it should get. It's human beings sitting watching and deciding if something landed- just like we.

I had Ward nudging it, but I've only watched it once.

I need to watch it a couple of more times, one with the sound off & maybe with US commentary too.

I thought Ward had zero inside game (he didn't expect the Russian to have a few martial arts moves himself and be so strong).

Usually Ward likes to get inside and maul and wrestle - but was locked-up every time and even thrown around.

Then he got dropped. I think he thought the approach that he always takes would be enough, but then had to completely change his game and stick to pure boxing down the stretch. Him and Virgil looked panicked in the corner, it was unravelling fast for them, but credit to them for changing things up.

Ward showed big balls and it was competitive - but he was pecking with the jab and the odd counter, whilst being moved around and generally out-gunned.

Some of the shots stung and surprised Kovalev, but for me he seemed happy to take 2 or 3 to land one of his own. Also at the end of the bout, it would seem Andre was pretty bashed-up whereas Kovalev didn't really have any damage anywhere.

I had it 115-113 with Kovalev neutralising Ward up close, then bossing and dropping the very-game and tough Andre Ward.

I am slightly disappointed with the score, but not devastated either. I can accept how others saw things. I do find it odd that Kovalev got ONE point from 3 judges through the final 6 rounds though. That was very odd.

I enjoyed the fight, they both did well considering and look forward to the rematch.

I had it 115-112 Ward.

Both even in the clinches. I just favoured Ward in the exchanges. He took a lot of kovalevs punches on the arms late on.

Not a robbery though and the scorecards were close enough.

Serious questions of American bias imo.
I thought the Sky commentary during round 10 was appalling. It bore no relationship to what was happening in the ring. After the fight I watched round 10 again , to check if it was me who had got it totally wrong. Rewatching only confirmed my original impression that it was a clear round to Kovalev. He landed more solid jabs in that round than in any other. I scored the fight 116-113 to Kovalev with a couple of rounds even. I've always maintained that it is a reluctance to score any round even which leads to these poor decisions.

I watched the fight last night having known the result.
I thought Ward's interview after the fight was really encouraging in that it was entirely honest, without any boasting or arrogance.

Even though I wanted Kovalev to win, and predicted that on here, I scored the fight a draw, and that was without scoring any rounds even.
It was not an exciting fight for me, perhaps it would have been if I'd watched it live, but it was a bit like Mayweather v Pacquaio. Too technical for me.

One thing I would say though is that its not often the 'favourite' ( Ward on this occasion) loses in Las Vegas!!

I felt Kovalev won by about 2 rounds, but it is what it is.

Yup, its almost like the judges were listening to Sky's disgusting commentry.

Round 10 scoring was simply corrupt imo. 2 of the judges wrre in a position where if they gave Kovalev another 10-9 for Kovalev in the 2nd half of the fight it was curtains for Ward.... when a clear Kov round came in the 10th they just couldn't give Kov the fight.

Your right, I must have scored a round even.

I'll say something else, it would be possible to have scored the fight 120-107 for Kovalev or 118-109 for Ward. It was that type of fight!

Just watched it again. On the night had Ward edging it by a point.

This time around had it 116-113 Kov.

Had 1, 2, 4, 6, 10, 11 for Kov
Had 5, 7, 9, 12 for Ward
3 + 8 had even (but if having to choose would give 3 to Kov and 8 to Ward)

One thing I thought was interesting is how much Kov clinched too.

What are you talking about?

Ward won no more than 5 rounds end of story. I fail to see how anyone scoring objectively and impartially can come to any other conclusion.

Added to that there is no way Kovalev won every round.

I think Kovalev was hard done by and won it by a couple of rounds.

However, Kovalev did himself no favours after the second round stoppage. He really ought to have jumped on Ward in the remainder of the second round and in the third round. Despite what Ward says he was clearly hurt by the shot that put him down and was there for the taking in my view. By not going for the stoppage there and then he allowed Ward to get a foothold in the fight which was then always going to make it tough for Kovalev to dominate.

Equally Kovalev's lack of activity in the second half of the fight also made the fight a lot closer than it needed to be. He just didn't throw enough punches and got embroiled in Ward's ugly inside game. I appreciate that this was in part due to Ward's skill and forcing the fight this way but it always looked to me like there was another gear left in Kovalev which we didn't see.

Your right of course, I wasn't suggesting Ward or Kovalev won/lost every round. My point is that every round except the second was close, and anyone could argue for or against both boxers in any round.

Ward came back really well in the 3rd. After the knockdown Kovalev tried to jump all over him but wasn't able to, it was decent work by Ward to not get taken out by a huge puncher like Kovalev. And even better to turn the fight around and prevent him getting any big power shots off cleanly pretty much for the rest of the fight. He's never really had to deal with that before and was getting caught by Ward pretty regularly down the stretch.

Kathy Duva made a mug of herself after the fight saying Kovalev had hurt his hand which he promptly denied.
