I didn't think that I would ever feel sorry for Amir!

(Assuming this whole situation is not just some contrived media spin for publicity ahead of a realty to show)

If its all true and not just publicity ,, It does show the difference in values , forget the muslim shite and wether you think its old fashioned or not ...

These people have there believes and religion , there making there way in a western world , and its a juggling act , there kids are growing up with modern western values but there trying to get there kids stick to stick to some old fashioned values , religous and otherwise . Overall probably handling the transitsion quite well.

The old man and the mother , well they have tried to bring there kids up with there believes and yet still allowed them to become westernized , yet this woman , comes in and causes friction through her lack of respect , for them or there values ,,

SHE married into that familly , IF she wants to be accepted , she should'nt blatantly embarress them .. THE OLD MAN HAS HIS BELIEVES AND values . and she flaunts them and then goes public with it all , the woman is drumming up publicity for a modelling carreer , and a split in the coming divorce , .. Ok she may not like his believes but its all about REPECT ,,

Basicly , Amir is a idiot its going to cost him big time , he married a failed model from new york and now she won't respect his father and mother he has to choose . its not about control .

When my grandmother was alive , old fashioned irish catholic woman , very strict believs religously and morally ,, my lads would bring there girlfreinds around , now there wifes , and my daughter in laws ,they still talk about her with fondness , and they sepecielly say how if it was a familly show , they would make sure they wore appropriate clothes , so not to set her off ,

All three were young at the time , but they showed RESPECT for there hubbys familly especielly the nana because she was old and set in her ways ,, This woman failed model wants publicity and nothing else , Oh except maybee money .

Amir is an idiot , he's a boxer from , Bolton who spent his life concentrating in the gym instead of school , and he got sucked in by a money grabbing middle class yank from new york , who wants to be a model . He should piss her off and let her take up with Paulie Magnalia or some basket ball player ,, she probably has her next victim set up anyway .

She's not going to help their cause.

She is a drama queen and she is an embarrassment to Khan's family.
Whether or not she's being a little dramatic, it's still a real life problem, which is not an isolated incident in the culture.

What you fail to see is that women in the culture on occasion are treated much worse than her, and all she is doing is putting her foot down and saying 'this is not acceptable'. Giving other women in far worse situations some comfort that there is some public awareness. It's not going to cure the disease which runs through that culture, but it most certainly is a step in the right direction.

Sorry mate, but you're an idiot.

Is the old man's beliefs and values the only one that matter? What about her beliefs and values? You really think this is a Muslim thing, or do you think it's a culture thing? Do you think that it's fair that they get to determine how she dresses, and not the other way round? Do you think she is dressing inappropriately?

Irrespective of the publicity that she and her in-laws are receiving does not cloud over the real issue here of how she's been subjected to a set of ideals that she as an adult does not subscribe to. At what point can an Asian women make decisions for themselves? I'll tell you when, for a majority, never. It's just bullying.

I understand that is probably quite normal that people don't get on with their in-laws, but under no circumstances should they be dictating how an adult married couple should live their life.

Listen, some of the pictures I think are not that appealing. In some she looks okay.

But then, that's not really the main point of this discussion is it?

To a large extent it is what matters.

She looks weird. I wouldn't want a member of my family hooking up with that freak.

Agreed. Khans parents should eff off back to their home country if they cant handle Western values. Its one thing following your own beliefs, but the core of Western values is everyone has the right to be who they want to be, no grown adult should be bullied and dictated to over such trivial matters. Their actions have no place in Britian today. I have no sympathy with hardcore muslims trying to enforce home their religion in Britain. We are a christian society of free will and should defend anyone living here from different backgrounds who wishes to embrace our values.

I agree she might be liking the attention, but thats not the real issue here. She is highlighting a major problem in modern British muslim society that needs eradicated. We should defend the girl and help her spread her wings, I cannot understand why anyone would side with Khans parents here, its madness.

fornicate off back to under the rock you came from yourself - what are 'western values' anyway? You know, I am under the impression that 'western values' are a very broad church of values, are they British values? French? Spanish? Australian? Canadian? Walloon?

I thought the bedrock of 'western values' was, you coulddowhateverthefuckyouwantaslongasitisn'tharminganyoneelse. Now, as far as I can see - there is a massive cultural and class divide going on here, also, she is stuck in Bolton - that is the root of the cause rather than anything to do with Islam.

Fayrool is a Muslim - it can't have been a massive shock that refusing to wear various clothing was going to cause a rumpus with a working class, traditonal, Pakistani mother in law - she must have known this before marrying Amir, and you know what - it isn't against the law for a mother in law to demand her husbands wife to wear clothing that respects her decency - yet!

Fayrool has refused to comply, everyone is still alive. So why should they go back to 'wherever they come from' you tosser!

Define clothing which respects decency, that's a farce in itself as we aren't born wearing them so really you should be allowed walk about in your birthday suit without judgmental prudes collectively cacking their pants over it.

I don't have to define anything, Bwana, I didn't marry into that little quagmire - she did, and she went into it knowing what was expected of her, if you're smart - you sort of compromise with the situation you have chosen for yourself.

At this moment in time, Islamic doctrine regards female clothing is still legal in the UK - Amir Khan's mum is not trying to enforce an illegal situation on her, would I want that for a daughter of mine, no - but I would have said to my daughter before she married Amir Khan 'Listen love, are you aware what is expected of you before you marry the handsome, millionaire sporting superstar?'

And I have it on good authority that the Khans aren't in the slightest bit reactionary regards their religion - they are pretty easy going as it happens, but it looks like young Fayrool won't comply with any of it - fine - that's fair enough - then don't marry into a family where they expect their in laws to act a certain way.

Because she went into this marriage with her own free will and knew what was expected of her.

She could have said well before marrying young Amir 'I want to continue being a decadent Noo Yoik broad, are mummy and daddy cool with that?'

Amir: 'No, love, they want you wearing veils and shit and be stuck in a kitchen making us all chapatis all day'

Fayrool: 'fornicate that! See year!'

But no, she heard the cash till ring in her head and the silly little mare thought she could play them all out... I don't know, some people....

Why have you spelt that word wrong? :-?
what western values are, yet in your next paragraph you make your case for the Khans. You sound confused man, make up your mind you moron.
If western values are freedoms to do as you please, including the freedom of worship, why isn't what the Khans want not part of western values? They're not mutually exclusive.

People are Jews and Buddhists and embrace western values - in fact, some people are actually indigenous to your islands and are Muslim - do they go back to where they come from also or is it just people who aren't from round your way. Their religion has nothing to do with them rejecting western values unless they actually state this to be the case, which they haven't.

They're British - when can we start to offend your sensibilities where you lot don't go 'go back to where you come from?'

Do we have to be here another 200 years before you lot go 'hmmmmmmm - you've been here long enough...'

It is a moron chant that is a good 50 years out of date.

If you accept that we are as British as you - and they are as am I - then you are going to have to accept that we can do things and say things that might piss you off without you going into Alf Garnett retro mode and tell us to get back on our 'facking banana boat if you don't like it 'ere'.
