Some well know boxers had a lot of losses---but I can’t think of any very famous fighters with more losses than wins... Records are interesting, but they tell you more about consistency and the will to win ...and also about cream-puff opponents -- than they tell you about skills

Leon Spinks was 26-17-3… Luis Ramon Campas had 17 losses but won his first 56 fights… Ezzard Charles had 25 losses. Jim Braddock had 24 losses. Henry Armstrong had 21 losses… Archie Moore had 23 losses… Joey Giardello had 26 losses... Robinson, LaMotta, and Dick Tiger had 19 losses each… Willie Pep had 11 losses... Eder Jofre and Vitali Klitschko had 2 losses each… Gene Tunney and Salvador Sanchez had 1 loss each… Ricardo Lopez had 0 losses and a draw.. Joe Calzaghe, Floyd Mayweather, and Rocky Marciano had 0 losses and 0 draws each – but I don’t see Calzaghe or Marciano as among the most highly skilled.

Not considering their records, I think Lomachenko, Mayweather, Sanchez, Tunney, and Pep were among the most skilled boxers who ever stepped into a ring.

No. Truth, just because it's inconvenient still shouldn't be ignored. Each great fighter who fights on past his best, and winds up with several losses is a lesson to future fighters of why you shouldn't do that. In spite of that very few heed the lesson. I think at some point a lot of these fighters see Boxing for what it is, and their hearts and minds aren't as into it as well as their bodies.

But no, you can't whitewash history. True fight fans will always understand the difference between a great fighter in his prime, and a great fighter past his prime. You'll have your ignoramus fans who will say "Well Mayweather has 0 losses and Robinson has 19 so clearly Mayweather is better", but to really understand Boxing is to understand all the subtleties and nuances. If all you understand is the stuff you see with Blinking Neon Lights. You're missing a lot of the game.

It's not that simple. Many fighters suffer losses on the way up and develop that way. Freddie Pendleton was 32-17-4 when he won the IBF lightweight title. Uriah Grant won his world title at 25-12. Jong Kwan Chung of Korea picked up the IBF flyweight belt at 12-8-4.

Beterbiev is 39. So his most recent title fights shouldn’t be on his record? Like if he beats Bivol? Sergio Martinez and Omar Narváez were defending their belts at almost 40. Fights after 36 shouldn’t count?
