today. countrys help out boxers, give them money and they want them to win in the olympic games to help bring proudness to their country. in amateurs some have records with 200, sometimes 300 fights, just like the old school boxers had back than. only difference. old school boxers needed money quick and turned pro and had many easy paid sparring sessions that were officialy named pro fights and at amateurs, the countrys like cuba or russia take care fininaciely of the boxers, so there is no need for them to turn pro quick, because things are getting take care of. they get cars, money, gold medalist in russia get like 75.000 euro i remember kovalev saying this, so no need for turning pro quick.
in pros, the difference between pro boxing today and pro boxing in old school times is that, today in professional boxing you dont have paid sparring sessions like you had back than. why? for one, the public doesnt appreciate when a boxer with a 47 wins record fights someone with a 6 wins 13 losses record, for 2 boxers make much more money than in the 20's, 30's. basicly with 2-3 big fights than can have enough money for the rest of their life, if they dont live a mayweather kind of lifestyle. for example timmy, he has 36 fights, which is not much, but he made millions against pac and marquez and with only 36 fights he easily has around 6 millions on his bankaccount, which is enough until the day he days, unless he spends money crazy. had sugar ray robinson get 50 million for fighting floyd, pac or de la hoya, believe me he would have never had all those paid sparring sessions in which he earned like 1000 dollar
so there you have it, i hope i could help and make you understand, why boxers nowadays are amateurs, why old school boxer had so many fights agaisnt easy opponents and why pros today have not so many fights, cause they can make big buck fighting superstar opponents.
