I don't agree with the matchup either, and your point makes sense; every promoter would jump at the chance to have a heavyweight world champion. My point is that I don't see how Warren can make an offer to get Parker to come to the UK for a fight against someone with as minimal a profile as Hughie.JimJim2009 wrote:Whatever it costs, I imagine Fwank is looking at the prospect of buying himself a heavyweight champion, asap. Personally I do not agree with the match up because Hughie isn't really and there's no need to throw him in, its not like he's in his late thirties, but Fwank has the opportunity to get a piece of the heavyweight title and I imagine that is the attraction. Has anyone said Tyson will appear on the u/c too or have I dreamt it ? I'm sure they'd pull out all the stops to get both Fury's on the card.dirk2686 wrote:Hughie doesn't sell any tickets here and Parker is unknown. I just don't see how Parker can finally land a world title and immediately end up, despite all the sponsorship deals and business he does in NZ, deciding to defend at first time of asking halfway round the world on a Terry Flanagan card against a guy who does as little business as Hughie.
Warren would have to be paying him a fortune surely.

Well I'm only guessing, but Fwank and Bob Arum are good mates and Bob has a promotional slice of Parker, overseas I believe. If Parker HAS to face Hughie, team Parker may decide its worth doing it for bigger money on away soil. They seemed to struggle financially to raise the wonga to stage Parker vs Ruiz in New Zealand, it was on/off/on for a bit and they wanted government money to prop up the promotion. In a way, there are some similarities between Parker/Fury and Vitali/Herbie Hide, in that I've seen Fwank openly admit he lost an absolute fortune on staging that in the UK but he wanted home advantage for Herbie. I think I once saw Andy Ayling discuss the losses of that promotion too, it was a gamble and didn't pay off. If Hughie can dethrone Parker in April, Fwank is back in the heavyweight big time. I have a mental picture of Fwank at the moment, sort of like Harry Enfield's loadsamoney characterdirk2686 wrote:I don't agree with the matchup either, and your point makes sense; every promoter would jump at the chance to have a heavyweight world champion. This is for me, once again fine for Flanagan.
It's been bandied about for some time now he'll be fighting Felix Verdejo on Puerto Rican Day Weekend in NYC in June, so makes sense that US is picking the Petrov fight up, keep Flanagan unbeaten going into that.

A really solid card this.
Hope the promotion is done well over the next 2 months to get 8/9000 in there to look good on BT Sports.
The ticket prices are bonkers though and keep changing. I got an £80 ticket in a perfect position in the lower tier, now the seats next to it are being sold for £160 via eventim.
Barely any have been sold online, and looks like they are relying on the boxers to sell!

The Verdejo fight is going to be a mullering if it goes ahead. Verdejo levels above.

I saw those ticket prices and thought they were a little bit to reasonable ....garethhop wrote:A really solid card this.

Now they are £160, good work Frank
Really, this is why Franks shows are so poorly attended, Changing prices, changing fighters and try getting hold of somebody in there office. I never use to get a reply when asking about VIPSs to a few of his shows.
I was hoping that this BT deal would make them up there game but the year is already off to a flyer I see. He goes on about doing it for the fans, its the fans that matter. Well maybe stop fukking the fans about Frank

The public at large care as much about boxing as plenty other minority sports. Some active boxers are still household names. During the week of the Joshua Klitschko fight that will be the dominant story across all sports media in the country.Shambles wrote:The public at large couldn't care less about boxing.dirk2686 wrote:Promoters are there to promote. The likes of Anthony Joshua are very few and far between and the majority of people in my office I'm sure will never have heard of him.
Without boxing being on terrestrial free to air tv it will always be a minority sport, that's just how it is.
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Still not got my tickets yet tbh. I'll be going, but I'm still not overly trusting of a Frank show not to fall apart at some stage.
The £46 tickets are alright. There's not a bad view in Manchester Arena.

Easter, Linares and Zlaticanin (at the time) all had fights booked in.
Petrov highly rated with the governing bodies & has mixed it at a decent leve.
More than happy with this fight if it leads to Flanagan Verdejo/Linares/Garcia.
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Lol the Verdejo fight won't happen. Verdejo was absolutely awful against a guy who Uchiyama and Berchelt wiped out at the weight class below. Arum and his trainer said they won't rush him into a title fight.PredatorHayds wrote:Flanagan - Verdejo would be his coming out party but Petrov has Banana skin written all over him. I'm exactly the same I'll wait until about two weeks before to get tickets. I see warren has just moved a Belfast show because of an injury........Stuffs wrote:Still not got my tickets yet tbh. I'll be going, but I'm still not overly trusting of a Frank show not to fall apart at some stage.

He's the WBO mandatory so he's got two choices, box Flanagan in the summer or withdraw from the fight.Naandrew wrote:Lol the Verdejo fight won't happen. I don't agree with this buzz around Verdejo either. He has the skillset but his power hasn't developed yet. He would have been ideal for Terry last fight instead of the farcical fight that was Orlando Cruz
