The Pearce/Meade/Ferris/Currie era made sure of that.
Joe Bugner could have held that title from when he beat Cooper and defended it until 1984 when he could have fought Bruno if he had been inclined to.
Hearn's worst statement, I remember him saying that clearly and thinking "you've just had Sean Dodd vs Scott Cardle headline two shows, how dare you insult those guys", just because they're limited! Buglioni/Burton was brilliant! And he's saying there's no room for anyone who doesn't have world ambitions.ElJefe wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQm0hV5hcTc

Talk about devaluing the British title.
Completely agree. In fairness, towards the back end of last year I do recall him telling Kugan that he wants to do more British title fights. Hope he delivers on it.TheGingerBomber wrote:Hearn's worst statement, I remember him saying that clearly and thinking "you've just had Sean Dodd vs Scott Cardle headline two shows, how dare you insult those guys", just because they're limited! I was going to post the same - you have to go back a few years to the "romantic" era of British Heavyweight boxing.nobleart1978 wrote:The British title lost its appeal in the late 70s.

Think he'd have all his prospects go the British route if he weren't scared to put them in with proper guys. Mind, it's up to the fighters too!ElJefe wrote:Completely agree. That's definitelty true.
I rememver that Naz used to boost (early on in his career) that he was the "Super Bantamweight Champion of Europe"....
But if a boxer wins the WBC Silver or the WBA International or the WBO Intercontinental title holder, then what exacrly does that mean?
It's like winning the WBO NABO title and many more. It climbs you up the rankings for the organisation.Crease wrote:Naandrew wrote:The silver, Intercontinenal etc what I like to call "toy belts" are the bigger problem.![]()

Ho about "remember the night I won that fight which gave me a top 15 ranking with the WBO"?Naandrew wrote:I friend said to me as a fighter looking backwhat sounds better.Crease wrote:Naandrew wrote:The silver, Intercontinenal etc what I like to call "toy belts" are the bigger problem.![]()

"Do you remember that night I won the British title."
