AJ hasn't gone. If he KOs Bellew in a rematch and an average top 10 HW (Browne or someone), who else does AJ have? Wilder probably won't fight him. There's always money in Haye
I think the fact they you're suggesting Browne as a possible opponent for Haye demonstrates how out of touch you are. Haye has just had surgery on the achilles, depending on the severity of the injury, we're looking at minimum 6 months until he'll be in a position to fight again. Let's say that he fights Bellew next in a rematch, and spanks him inside 3 rounds (which he needs to do to save face), and then fights another top 10 contender in a quick turnaround, beating him in equally impressive fashion, that would be in a minimum of 12 months time.

In that time AJ would have fought, and most likely beat Klitschko, and probably satisfied one of his mandatory fights also. In 12 months time, AJ will have plenty of options. For a start he'll have his eye on unifying the division, so namely fights with Parker and Wilder. It's also possible that Tyson will be back on the scene in 12 months time (although not certainly). Haye is not the biggest option, and since the Bellew defeat, not even an attractive one.
Out of touch? As long as Haye is alive, it'll always be the most lucrative name out there for AJ and there are no other big names (except Fury and he's gone possibly for good) out there. To think it's not a possibly is out of touch

Why was Jim Tibbs in his corner ? Was he always lined up for fight night or was he just drafted in once haye was worried about the injury ?

I think Jim would've pulled him out had he been in charge. There have to be clear lines of demarcation between fighter and trainer, shane at times just seemed to be happy to be in haye's gang.

Just for information. If a boxer is injured accidentally , and half the fight has been completed, it goes to the scorecards. So for instance an accidental head clash causing a bad cut, with more than half the rounds completed, the scorecards are used.

Mensa07 wrote:Thought the corner should have forced the issue much earlier, really not sure why Shane let him fight so many rounds given he could barely walk. In the break immediately after it happened Haye was obviously saying let me fight on, so at that point you'd maybe let him go another minute or two but clearly, I'll repeat that in caps, CLEARLY Haye was in considerable pain and couldn't use both legs properly. So how the f*ck he was ever going to box properly I'll never know. Yes Haye would have been furious if McGuigan had pulled it, because of his pride, and yes he'd maybe never work with or even speak to him again, but FFS from a professional point of view it was the only decision IMO. Instead you keep sending your guy out there to get clubbed and make a spectacle of himself falling over when trying to fight back. I thought it was pretty shocking from the corner tbh and I'm surprised nobodies talking more about it.

While I'm ranting I was a bit disappointed in Bellew after the fight also. I like Tony and I even won a few quid by backing him, but to not even acknowledge the fact, FACT, that Haye's achilles or whatever it was clearly snapped and left him broken wasn't very sporting. To try and paint the fight as 'I knew I'd get him late on' or whatever is just bollocks. AS I said I had a very small bet on Tony but up till the injury there was only going to be one winner, Haye was finding a rhythm and starting to connect with Tony's very stationary head more and more.

I imagine Haye will have to retire now but to be honest I really hope he gets the ankle 100% and gets a rematch, from what I seen in the few rounds he was able a 100% fit Haye would be far too much for Bellew. Good luck to both anyway whatever they do next.
The corner is the boss, like bellew said "theres been too many accidents in the ring lately" but hayes corner lets him fight on with 1 leg equalling no real power to force a stoppage even if he wanted to. This will do mcguigan no favours although i like shane

Tbf to shayne i think theres definetely a role for him to play in the sport. Seen some of his training. And he gets his fighters fit. He knows his fitness stuff. Its just the actual boxing side of things where he seems to be lacking. I ve no doubt if you were to sit down and talk to him...he,d know a great deal of stuff but at the top level where hes found himself hes no where near ready. Tactics seem to be lacking and in this case the decision makings totally been farcical. Tbf i m not sure any 28 year old would be ready.

Hes probably done the best he could given that at no point did he look like he was in control of things with haye. But hes needing to take a step back...and maybe get in partnership with someone thats technically better. Even his personality looks more suited to being a number 2 in charge.

Tough choice with ending the fight with the injury. If haye was a younger man...the towel would have went in. But it was basically last chance saloon for him. He had to win that fight. And there was still a slight chance with his power he might have got lucky. Personally for me tho the towel would have been in at the end of the round.

I was indicating you was out of touch for suggesting Browne as an opponent when he is banned for a second failed drugs test. It's not even sure if he'll ever come back either.

I would have agreed with you had it been before the Bellew fight, but after it, not an attractive fight. What's their selling angle?

It's my understanding that the injury would have to be as a result of an accidental foul to go to the scorecards. (eg accidental clash of heads as you said.)

If a fighter suffers an injury like Haye did they would just be classed as unfit to continue and the contest awarded to the opponent.

Is it an accidental 'foul' before you go to the scorecards? I can't argue with you because I'm not sure myself now. I'm sure I've seen a title fight in the recent past when one of the boxers dislocated his knee but I can't remember the outcome.
Is there any refs on this thread could answer for definite? Maybe if your an official, Punchers Chance, your view is in fact the bottom line.

Its surely only in the case of fouls and accidental clashes etc otherwise guys would be going up on the cards and then crying wolf left right and centre.

From the BBBoFC

3.34 If at any time during a Contest the Referee decides in his complete discretion that one contestant is outclassed or is unable to continue as a result of injury, or is not in a position to continue boxing or, at the conclusion of any round, is ten points or more behind his opponent, he shall stop the Contest and declare the opponent the winner.

Accidental Fouls

1. If an accidental foul causes an injury severe enough for the referee to stop the bout immediately, the bout will result in a TECHNICAL DRAW if stopped before four (4) completed rounds. Four (4) rounds are complete when the bell rings signifying the end of the fourth round.

2. If an accidental foul causes an injury severe enough for the referee to stop the bout immediately after four (4) rounds have occurred, the bout will result in a TECHNICAL DECISION awarded to the boxer who is ahead on the score cards at the time the bout is stopped.

Partial or incomplete rounds will be scored. If no action has occurred, the round should be scored as an even round. This is at the discretion of the judges.
In the case of four (4) round contests the Foul Rule would come into effect at the bell ending round two.

In the case of six (6) round contests the Foul Rule would come into effect at the bell ending round three.

In the case of eight (8) round or above contests the Foul Rule would come into effect at the bell ending round four.

Why is this conversation still ongoing?

I thought people here actually knew boxing?

If Haye stopped fighting because of the injury it would have been Bellew TKO. If you don't know this then you need to start reading through the rules of boxing.
