Bellew sounds stupid when he talks..
Was watching Soccer AM..
He said..
"I said to him 'you're blowing, you're blowing boy' because I knew he had hit me with his best, he's disheartened and I've got a little cut on my head, it was just a scratch,"
"I said to him 'you're blowing boy' and I knew from the end of the fourth round that I had him, even in the first round in my mind I'd won the fight in the first round."
"We got into an early exchange and I hit him with a left hook on the temple, and I've always said this - I'm not somebody that needs to hit you bang on the chin to hurt you, I can hit you anywhere and hurt you."
"I hit him on the top of the head and he kind of bounced back like a cartoon character, I'd say like Sideshow Bob, but he just sprung back with shock. It was at that moment in time that I knew I got his respect and he knew he was in for a fight in that very first exchange and from there on in it was just about executing the game plan."
"One thing that was going through my mind is that he has the power to end you with one punch at any time and you cannot switch off for a second."
"I'll be honest I came in too heavy, I shouldn't have come in at the weight that I did, everybody knows I enjoy my food and it was one too many Nandos for me I think it was,"
"So I did come in a bit heavy, heavier that predicted and in the eighth round I was really, really blowing, it was a tactical fight for the first four or five rounds. I had to make him miss and pay."
"And it's the tactical fights that drain you, not the wars because you are throwing punches and you're not thinking about what's coming, so when you don't have to think about what's coming it's natural, but I had to think about making him missing, slipping, shoulder rolling, hitting his body."
"By the end of the eighth round, I'll be totally honest I was completely spent and I was waiting and praying for that second wind to kick in."
He said..

Re: Bellew sounds stupid when he talks..
I go through phases of liking then loathing Tony! He's one of them characters. Away from the ring I'm sure he's a decent enough guy. He's been very hypocritical in the build up and aftermath of this fight. Maybe he's maturing. Have to say though I like his punditry when he's on he comes across well and seems intelligent enough.

No mate, I was talking about Bellew
I had him loosing 4-1 going into the 6th and Haye was finding his groove a little better and then bam. Now it was all in the game plan..... sure

How can someone be so deluded?
Re: Bellew sounds stupid when he talks..
It's all part of generating another situation for FarcePPV2. All very cynical.
Re: Bellew sounds stupid when he talks..
Yep - he has been on mainstream tv every day this week and at Goodison today.cmdenny wrote:It's all part of generating another situation for FarcePPV2. All very cynical.
He is doing his best to get a bigger percentage of the PPV next time.

Every time I turn on my TV or radio, Bellow is on.
He's really milking this victory to the max.
You think he'd beaten Mike Tyson '86 the way he's carrying on.
He's obviously trying to remain relevant, but any rematch with Haye won't take place for about a year, so is he going to be prattling on about this until 2018?![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

I can't see the problem with any of that, how is he deluded ?,he said he would take Haye's best shots and wear him down in the later rounds and win,he's the one sitting in the driving seat now,do you think he would stand up and say he was wrong, fighters rarely do.chrisnew86 wrote:Ruthless-RKO wrote:Was watching Soccer AM..

I have nothing but complete respect for Bellew. He's a former 175 pounder, not big at cruiserweight, and he moved up to heavyweight to face what most people thought - me included - was a total hiding to nothing. Yes, he did it for money - he is a professional fighter - but it takes balls to do what he did. Can't believe all the grief he gets. At the end of the day, we're sat at a device being wise after the event, from the safety of our homes. Bellew got into the ring and went through hell before winning an amazing fight. Threads like this will be why a lot of professional fighters will think internet forums are full of xxxxholes. Don't mean to cause offence to fellow fans but that's my view.

The reason he's milking it is because 90% of 'experts' gave him virtually zero chance of making it past the 2nd round, he won't really care about the way he won just the fact he won,if he was fighting 86 Tyson the experts would have predicted exactly the same outcome for him anyway.

I respect him 100%, yes it takes balls but he is talking out of his arse. He is a sports star on a shed load of cash , I'm a sports fan who pays his wages I'm aloud an opinion even if its complete shite I'm speaking.
If I agree with everything a fighter says, is it ok to post that? is it just negative stuff you don't think we should post?
The way you are talking there should be no Internet forum at all.

Very deluded,i will say haye did back off after the first exchange but that was because the injured achillies has flared up and from then on haye didnt get into any exchanges nothing to do with bellew hitting him on the top of the head because bellew hit him with everything for 5 rounds and didnt dent him one bitRuthless-RKO wrote:Was watching Soccer AM..

Not at all, debate is great, but the way some people have gone on about Bellew you'd think he was a low life criminal of the worst kind. He showed incredible balls and bravery to get in the ring and fight Haye. He is definitely an over-achiever, but it takes balls to do what he did last weekend. So many times in this sport, boxers enjoy success because of their physical attributes/skill set, what Tony has done is through hard work, grit and determination. He is not the most talented or gifted boxer but I honestly admire what he went through last weekend. I've watched the fight three times, including once with the sound totally off, and he went to hell and back. He was totally out of his depth up at heavyweight, he took some massive punches, he was knackered and out-gunned but he hung on in there. Yes, he can't really punch at heavyweight but it was tremendous how he went after Haye in the later rounds, time after time, doing his damndest to stop Haye. To me that's what the sport of boxing is all about, somebody giving it everything.chrisnew86 wrote:JimJim2009 wrote:I have nothing but complete respect for Bellew. I'd say it was an amazing fight, yes. Guys at my running club were talking about it, so were people at work, the lads I watched the fight were enthralled by it too. I honestly think that sometimes on these forums there is a serious level of over-analysis going on. I am probably guilty of it myself at times. I expected Haye to win in the first or second, and I thought the fight was unforgettable. Okay it wasn't the thriller in manilla but as an experience, with the underdog hanging in there, and the drama and so on, it was amazing to watch.TheDarkDestroyer wrote:So we're supposed to blindly agree with anything a boxer says? Yeah he does sound a bit "punchy" but fair play to the guy he backed up what he said
Re: Bellew sounds stupid when he talks..
Im an absolute a $$ to bellew on here only from what he has said in the past but that doesnt mean i havent got respect for what he has done and what he has achieved, tbh im beginning to like the guy. You see we as fans only see the fighter we dont see the man away from the ring and watching behind the ropes i seen a man pretty similar to myself= a man trying to be the best father to his kids as he can be,be the best husband he can be and just watching normal tv programmes. We all have views on fighters so why cant fighters like bellew have his opinion on haye? Or haye on bellew? Bellew has done it all british commonwealth European WBC champ and now multi millionaire ppv star,he came from nothing with,in my view, limited skills and won the lot and i take my hat off to the lad. We as fans and sometimes boxing experts give fighters unnecessary stick but thats because we want to see a war,we want to see a boxing lesson,we want to see a guy leave it all in the ring like they say they will but its safe for us to want this cause we arnt taking the punishment or going thru hell to get in tip top shape for a fight. We could sometimes be a little more understanding but the saying goes you can only please some ppl some times you cant please everyone all the time.JimJim2009 wrote:I have nothing but complete respect for Bellew.
I have not seen one thread where people have said Bellew has no balls?
Hell and back? Come off it, he had a couple of hairy moments and then hit the jackpot in round number 6

Re: Bellew sounds stupid when he talks..
All good points in the debate. I just think there's a few after-timers slagging off Bellew and forgetting the mission-impossible task he signed up for. The injury to Haye was nothing to do with Bellew, and on paper the fight was a mismatch. Bellew could easily have lost in the first round and been a laughing stock. He's not my favourite fighter but he has got bxxxxxks the size of grapefruits to sign up to fight Haye, move up to heavyweight, get in the ring, and do what he did. I think its entirely possible he does not win another fight at heavyweight, or even another fight in his career, but what he did last Saturday was fantastic. I get all the gripes about how the injury seemed to be air-brushed out of the whole thing afterwards, and the gripes about Sky, Hearn etc, but purely from the point of view of me being in love with the sport of boxing since I was a kid, what Bellew did last week really was something amazing.
