I thought Chang was going to run away with it. He was still in the fight late on and still putting the effort in, I just felt his work got scrappier as he tired and Zapata picked him off.Seamus wrote:I didn't keep my scorecard because of the missing round but I remembered having Chang way ahead in the 1st bout. Thought it was a robbery. Zapata's a very good defensive fighter but occasionally doesn't throw enough back.
but they were close rounds late on and I could easily see Chang being awarded a couple of them and it being a Chang win. Don't think I could see it being wide enough to call it a robbery though, I thought it was a close fight.
I commented on the light flyweight thread that Chang barely used the jab and it's what I felt was the major factor in him losing to Humberto Gonzalez.
He did use it slightly more in the Zapata bout but again I think it was a failing in his game. He made those raiding attacks, bursting into range from distance, sometimes swinging wild shots. I felt when those stopped having success, there wasn't much to score him rounds on. If he'd put the jab out more often I'd have felt he was more involved in those late rounds.
Not sure how effective the jab might have been against the rangier guy mind you....
