Yeah, quite possibly. That said, Haye did pretty well for himself working independently. I think Joshua could go off on his own if he really wanted to aswell. I doubt he will though as everything is in place for him now. It would be pointless to go alone just to save a few quid.

He was already developed and had a massive fanbase/hatebase. Your local window washer could have sold Floyd's last few fights. Floyd was a tremendous fighter and actor who played his role superbly. That doesn't necessarily reflect his business acumen.

I don't believe a lot of 'promoters' do a lot of actual promoting! Let's be honest, it's actually the TV networks that inevitably do most of the promoting with their 24/7's or all access type shows. What actual 'promoting' do the promoters actually do bar having a press conference and doing a few interviews?

The fact that he played the role well. He knew to change his persona. It does speak to his business acumen.

It's not as simple as that; the multiple domestic violence charges, the assault charges, the boring style, the over-inflated opinion of himself were the reason why people didn't like him. Basically he was able to embrace those aspects which weren't an act and then perhaps add a little touch here and there. Again, basically accepting you're a douchebag and then trying to act a little more douche-baggish here and there doesn't automatically make you a great businessman.

He embraced it. First he was "pretty boy". The Gatti fight set the tone. To become the highest grossing boxer of all time. That had to come from being a great business man. People don't make that type of money or being the best at making money unless the business side is right. To keep fooling the public to hope loses is brilliant and suckers continue to line up hoping a hand picked opponent (Conor McGregor) can beat him. He has been to that well several times and it keeps working. That's smart business.

I like Merryweather. He does his business fairly and squarely, inside of the 36 minutes, wearing two gloves and two boots, just the same as the other fella - apart from that one time he tw*tted that....not Judah.....the other guy, the hispanic chap, AFTER rather than on the break.

That's the estimate I've read, however, that's just from boxing, if you factor in the promotional company, management company and other businesses, probably quite a bit more than that. Very sharp cookie, and unlike mayweather you don't see him out spunking money like a teenage drug dealer.

He's been one of the guys promoters have treated more favourably over the years even when he never deserved it. His behaviour in the past has been shocking as has his dedication. If you ask me he's done alright.

Look at Ricky Burns. Model pro, lives the life and gets fisted off Warren after his biggest victory. Promoters are sharks but Derecks done alright all things considering.

Some promoters are somewhat honest and some are usually dishonest. But you have to be a little cut throat to make money on an upper level. Promoters, bankers, the media are easy targets and they all need checks and balances but without these groups that are universally hated, we'd be living in Cuba.
