Round-By-Round - Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
i think Terry Flanagan is under rated , think he would be hard to beat
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Verdejo has looked pretty lackluster to me over the last year, and he was just hurt by and dropping rounds to someone who, as pointed out, was quickly destroyed by Uchiyama and Berchelt a weight down. He seems to have a lot of talent, notably very good speed, but he hasn't really been putting it together well lately IMO.TheLeprechaun wrote:The Verdejo fight is going to be a mullering if it goes ahead. Verdejo levels above.
He can be too passive at times, almost looking gun shy, and while I'd back him by UD in the US I think Flanagan could give him issues with work rate and physicality.
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Flanagan is gonna take a UD over Petrov I figure.

I haven't seen Flanagan yet. Seen Petrov a couple times but it seems to me he's being brought in as an opponent. Still a good operator though.
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Yeah Petrov is a tough, brawler type. Should provide a decent enough challenge, but Flanagan is a higher level operator or at least has been up to now. Flanagan can be less than impressive sometimes though.punchoutsb wrote:I haven't seen Flanagan yet. Seen Petrov a couple times but it seems to me he's being brought in as an opponent. Any fight recommendations I should check out Flanagan in to bring myself up to speed?gilgamesh wrote:Yeah Petrov is a tough, brawler type. Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Petrov is on a career-best run and will be at least his second best opponent. He's a solid boxer-brawler with a steady attack and good body work, he's not a midget coming up like Cruz, and he's not an old, washed up fighter like Fana. It's not exactly like Flanagan is some amazing talent or exceptionally proven champion who has shown beyond doubt that he can look down on this type of opposition.
Also, I advise people to watch Petrov-Zlat, because the fight is much more competitive than the cards suggest.

He's got a quick TKO win over Diego Magdaleno that's one of his most impressive wins so farpunchoutsb wrote:Any fight recommendations I should check out Flanagan in to bring myself up to speed?gilgamesh wrote:Yeah Petrov is a tough, brawler type. His most recent win over Orlando Cruz was a good performance for him
And his fight with Derry Matthews is probably his most interesting and competitive bout up to now.

He started brightly and looked the real deal. He has indeed flattered to decieve of late. I would be expecting him to raise his game and fight to his full potential in a title fight. Flanagan is good and awkward at times but if verdejo puts it all together there is only one winner

This card has been stacked to the brim with prospects and possibly competitive fights, Frank seems to be making sure he gets a lot of ticket sales from the fighters.
Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Just seen a few more fights have been added. Jimmy Kelly Jnr vs. Rick Godding is a good trade fight as is JJ Metcalf vs. Mark Thompson.TheGingerBomber wrote:This card has been stacked to the brim with prospects and possibly competitive fights, Frank seems to be making sure he gets a lot of ticket sales from the fighters.
Zelfa Barrett, Jordan Thompson, Anthony Leak, Mark Heffron, Ste Lewis and Mason Cartwright also on the show.
Pretty decent show by all accounts.

Re: Terry Flanagan (c) vs. Petr Petrov - April 8th 2017
Ive been saying this for the last few of his fights now but hopefully Petrov can bring the A-Game out of Flanagan, he's not an old man and he's a genuine Lightweight who's been in with some good fighters like Maidana and Zlaticanin, I remember him winning the Boxcino tournament a couple of years back, he's a tough cookie and probably legit top 10 LW, still is it gonna be enough to make Flanagan go up that extra gear?
I'm pretty certain Flanagan wins this but I just hope he doesn't go into auto pilot as he's becoming quite boring, there was no snap in his punches against Cruz and he allowed himself to be tied up easily before finding the KO, the Mathews and Fana fights were pretty uninspiring, especially the Derry fight when it was Terry who was the dirty spoiler in that fight
I cant see Petrov wanting to tie up, I reckon he'll want to drag Flanagan into a fight which hopefully can leave him open and then finally we can see Flanagan make him pay and prove the Magdaleno KO wasn't a freak
Petrov's tough and I imagine he'll give Flanagan problems at times but I fancy Terry to show his class and maybe get him out of there in the 2nd half

The closer the fight gets the more chance I'm giving Petrov.
