Luke Campbell vs Darleys Perez

Post by Ossyrules »

Campbell's team targeting the WBA and Linares fight. The fight may form as an eliminator to fight for that belt

My knowledge of Perez is basically the two crolla fights. Based on that I like Campbell's chances. Quicker and rangier that crolla, goes to the body with the left hook as well. Based on the Mendy fight crolla may be better when going to the well and resilience, but I don't think Perez will take him there anyway.

Smells of an Eddie Hearn special this.

Steady step up for Luke. Quite confident for points or stoppage

Perez was robbed on the undercard of Ward-Kovalev against Mo Hooker.

It's a good one for Campbell though.

I saw that, they called it a draw, he won every round almost, worse than any of the robberies I've seen in the UK in recent years and that's saying something! Should be a good fight.

Agree, Perez was utterly whacked by those judges. This fight is awesome.

What robberies have you seen in recent years?

McDonnells last title defence was just as bad a decision I can think of from the top of my head but I'm questioning if that is even a robbery. Poor decision yes, robbery, not convinced

Perez has not made the weight for 17 months and is fighting at three weeks notice. This is poor

Why isn't Campbell rematching Mendy

Hearn should have made the Cardle fight and refused to work with Cardle when Joe Gallagher Inevitably turned it down

Luke Campbell wanted that fight to make history for Hull. Would have been perfect for this card. Instead Cardle is having a soft. Touch to win the belt outright what an embarrassment

Fair one for that then. I do think that some of the scorecards in England don't mirror what I'm seeing, but a lot of the time it's foreign judges.

I think that's judging though. See it in America regularly. The worst is still Germany imo

Decent enough fight and a name for Campbell's record should he get the W. Not over excited about it but it's alright. Has to be Mendy next unless fast car is going to try and bring Linares back over.

Great fight for Campbell. Good test. Hasn't Campbell been showing some decent body work since he hooked up with the trainer in Miami? Hopefully he can do a number on Perez.

A legitimate loss here & that's it for Campbell at international level.

Unless it's not

Surely Perez will have known for longer than that, and its just doting the i's etc and more importantly to put the main event back in the news that its been announced now? Or is that wishful thinking??

I think this fight would have been made weeks ago - I suspect a 8-10 week camp for both guys.

Hearn does it fairly often where he holds onto fights until the timing is a good as possible to announce them. It would have made less sense to announce it when it was agreed as it would have likely been around the Bellew-Haye fight hype.

Apparently it was ordered by the ebu but campbell pulled out

I thought I heard Mendy priced himself out of the rematch.

But maybe I heard that from Hearn

With the Mendy rematch looking less and less likely I'm glad Campbell at least has a meaningful fight.

Perez is no world beater but he has competed at a higher level than Campbells previous opponents. He also looked good in his last fight, just a shame he was fighting in front of blind judges.

Campbell UD, if he isn't planning to go for the British then at least this fight should help set up a Crolla fight

Perez was not rated by the WBA last month then this months he returned to the rankings at number 1

Absolutely disgusting a pure and simple brown envelope job from Hearn.

Telling you now Paul Smith will be in those rankings at Super middle soon

He was ranked at light welterweight by the WBA at no.6 so it's no big surprise he's now ranked at lightweight considering he's a previous belt holder. Are you sure he's moved to number 1 at lightweight? I'd be surprised if that was the case. I'm pretty sure it's purely an eliminator for the no1 spot (which is now open following Petrov's loss).

I wouldn't say it's disgraceful - I think Campbell is (rightly or wrongly) looking past the EBU belt now. He'll probably be looking for a title shot at the backend of the year.

Campbell wanted it because no fighter from Hull has been British champion but Joe Gallagher wouldn't let Cardle fight him.

Cardle wanted a soft touch to get the belt outright. Embarrassment of a British champion.

That is a bit of a joke! I don't recognise half of their top 15 either!
