Agree. I didn't envisage such a hevay set Canelo on the scales.
Could be a corker this one
I don't know what you guys are talking about. Canelo was likely around 175 lbs in the ring in his last fights, so why are you surprised that he took full advantage of not severely draining himself this time. He didn't do anything purposefully to come at 164. This weight is way more natural for him than 154. He will still add about 10 pounds in the next 24 hours.
Personlly i thought he'd look slightly lighter / built for speed thus coming in slightly lower / not as heavy set. He was around 171 for trout , 174 Aguello. Khan and Roach claim he was 180 for their contest buts that's never been confirmed.
Im not sure in boxing terms 164 is more natural for him. I've never seen him as a super middleweight. If you're talking walking around in the street, then yes of course, but not boxing wise where the science of cutting and rehydration has gone crazy.
A friend of mine appeared on a to prog in the U.K. - he cut 7kg (15lbs) in the 24hours before weigh in. It documents him doing this and how he did it.
Chewing ice cubes to draw moisture from saliva and spitting them out etc.... brutal
Canelo didn't really "come in heavier", he just cut less water. He will be the same fighter tomorrow as if he'd have weighed in at 155...or slightly better since cutting down so far can be harder to recover from.

I know what you're saying , but a fighter in a 12 week camp killing himself to make 154 and then his next 12 week camp hes training to be 10lbs heavier - that fighter is different. The camp is completely different.
Jesus , listening to us lot anyone would think they're having an aesthetic sports science shoot tomorrow, not a balls to the wall Mexican shoot out.

Canelo will at least gain 10, maybe 15.
Usually about 170 isn't he. I don't see him being much more .... it will be interesting to see though. He looks solid there at 164
He's probably 180 walking around in good shape. Less cut means less pain, but canelo still has to deprive himself to make 164.
Yeah of course, mind it's all down to interpretation of "deprive". If I go more than two hours without checking the contents of the fridge the missus checks my pulse
At some point in a mans body they will show weakness when you size them up toe to toe after losing or gaining a significant amount of weight.
You can cheat some people but you can't cheat nature.
Sometimes it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I'm still convinced Castillo had a huge advantge in the Corrales rematch, what was it, 3lbs over he weighed?
Seem to recall Corrales weighing more than him come fight night but sometimes it's about what you put your body through to get to that weight rather than what u put on after

It was in response to your quote above - reminded me of Corrales Castillo 2
I can't see Canelo weighing less than the very upper limit of 170. I see him breaking 180 comfortably come fight night. He still looks drawn around the abs and nowhere near as full as he was against Cotto, Smith, Khan.
Chavez on the other hand looks like a coke fiend with crazed eyes, living off fumes, going through life one line at a time.
If I'm Canelo or Oscar, i'm a little worried about the monster they've created in this one. JCCJR looks completely infatuated with this fight and never did they think that he could make 164 again much less do it in the healthy way he's done it. You can always tell when a fighter is sucked out or not by what their first move off of the scale is. If their first move is to grab something to eat or drink then they were sucked out. JCCJR just kept chewing his gum. This kid is ready.
THIS will be Canelo's toughest fight including the one against Floyd. At least versus Floyd it was a skillset he didn't have and Floyd was so brilliant that Canelo couldn't even touch him. Tonight against JCCJR, Canelo will take more damage than he's ever taken and he will need to find the heart to make it out of this one. VERY RISKY fight. My money is going on JCCJR because he's a live dog and worth the risk for payout.

I agree. I think everyone is hopeful ( including myself) Jr will make a good fight of it, but I think we will see what the effect of the weight has on him after about midway in the fight. He reminds me of Oscar before fighting Pacquiao. In addition to that, he lacks the skillset to compete with Canelo. An aging Martinez took him to school badly, and even at a higher more comfortable weight at 172 Fonfara took him out. Jr didn't even win a round against Fonfara before quitting.

I don't think it's going to be easy for Canelo either. Judging by the weigh in pictures Canelo isn't built for speed. Looks like Canelo is more built for taking and dishing out punishment. Either way 9 pounds is a awful lot of weight to add for a fighter in fighting weight. Canelo is only 5'9" if that. It could go in reverse for Canelo. Will find out soon enough.

Could just be a great psychological move by Chavez team.
Chavez looks like a weak fish... He looks like an Ethiopian who’s been thrown into a concentration camp and starved to death... Chavez is in there for the money... He doesn’t have a ghost of a chance to win and he knows it... I would rate him a 2000/1 long shot – only the luckiest of blindly thrown punches could secure a victory for him and that's not going to happen before we have a Richter scale magnitude 10 earthquake in North America ... Even Amir Khan had a better chance because he could box and move a little bit and avoid the KO punch for a few rounds.. This one could be over in the 1st round, but I don't think Canelo wants it over real fast.. I think he wants to punish Chavez and sees him as a fraud.
Canelo is block-shouldered with huge biceps and looks like a power house for this fight... He’ll enter the ring at least 185 and destroy Chavez.. Chavez may enter the ring about 180 at best.. He looks too damned weak and drawn to add a ton of weight.. Canelo may play this out a few rounds like he did the Khan fight.. He could have ended that fight at any time.. He may play with Chavez and embarrass him.. He may seek to make him quit in his corner.. He's a cruel kid.
Canelo will show kindness to Chavez after he knocks him out -- and tell him his dad was the greatest of all Mexican fighters, so not to give up. This display of compassion will be for the spectators and to increase his popularity.. Canelo is a phony, but he's a smart business guy.

That final cut is the one that hurts though. Unless Canelo came in to camp significantly higher/lower in weight than usual then the only thing that should change is the water cut starting 2-3 days out from the weigh in. Say Canelo always ends camp about 170-175, and then cuts the final water over the days leading up to the weigh in; the difference this time is he had to cut less water. I imagine he will weigh the same fight night as he would if he's weighed 155.
Ironically it could be Canelo's stipulation to drain Chavez down to 164.5lbs, forcing jr to get in tremendous shape, that becomes Alvarez undoing. This is going to be a good competitive fight and I bet we'll see Canelo in some major trouble tonight.
