Agreed. Being a primadonna is very likable, even lovable. Must be why he has such a huge fanbase and revered in the boxing industry.CaptainSpacerod wrote:I'm a big Kovalev fan and I wanted him to win the fight. Re: Andre Ward a no-show at HBO face-off for Ward-Kovalev II
Another reason to add to the many reasons why Ward is so unlikeable as a boxer. Both fighters agree to promotions for these fights to build interest. Maybe Ward doesn't get any proceeds from the PPV gate and his money is a set fee for the fight so he doesn't feel he's low enough to promote it if he's not benefitting from it.
He did take a shot a Lampley's TFG show. They billed the Ward/Kov fight as the fight to determine the #1 P4P fighter in the world. Ward won and Lampley didn't move him up. So i bet that had something to do with it. Had Ward won legitimately and not controversially as he did, he probably would have been #1 on everyone's list. You can't NOT take the bad decision into account when determining rankings like this.

Like I said before, I’m not trying to defend Andre’s actions, but isn’t it better to refrain from prematurely jumping to all sorts of derogatory conclusions until we’ve ascertained Ward’s explanation for missing HBO’s “Face Off”?

Kathy Duva:
“HBO was set up to shoot a Face Off with Sergey and Ward today (Sunday),” Duva said. “That is why we all came out to Las Vegas this weekend. It was the only date where we could sync everyone’s schedules. A great deal of money and time was expended to set this up."
“And this morning, a few hours before the taping, HBO and I got an email from Roc Nation informing us that Andre had already left town. So unprofessional. And such disregard for the money wasted by both his promoter and Main Events. More important, an HBO crew was at the studio setting this up at 4:00 a.m. because Ward’s people insisted that we start as early as possible today.”

Roc Nation does nothing for promotion, I guess their fighters don't either. The most bizarre money spent I've ever seen in entertainment. They must need tax write offs.

Personalities like Ward and Rigo are unpromotable.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Roc Nation does nothing for promotion, I guess their fighters don't either. The most bizarre money spent I've ever seen in entertainment. They must need tax write offs.

Then don't sign them. They have never lifted a finger to promote any fighter, including Cotto. The fact that Jay Z doesn't even show his face and use his celebrity at all tells you all you need to know. Easily the worst promotional outfit ever.boxing_rocks wrote:Personalities like Ward and Rigo are unpromotable.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Roc Nation does nothing for promotion, I guess their fighters don't either. People care about this shit? They're fighting in the ring, who needs faceoffs to get excited about this fight? Not like HBO is going to cancel the fight and Ward will more than likely retire after this fight, who gives a flying fornicate about some dumbass face off where we already know all the questions Kellerman is going to ask.
Is Ward really the premadonna or are the people on this forum grasping at straws, bitching about some stupid faceoff? I'm leaning towards the latter.

Professional Boxer means taking care of business in and out of the ring like a professional.
Big fights don't happen without a lot of people putting up a truck load of money and working their backsides off behind the scenes. That is probably where Kathy Duva is coming from.

HBO, duva, kovalev and the cable companies care. Personally I don't watch them, but ward is always unprofessional.NateJR wrote:People care about this poo? Very few boxers have big fanbases. Canelo for example has built a huge one by beating opponents forced to fight under unfavourable conditions - I don't think that makes him more likeable than WardBlodhemn wrote:Agreed. Precious snowflakes on boxing forums taking faux outrage at a boxer missing a face off (an artificial cringeworthy attempt at manufacturing a beef) are no guide to whether a boxer is "revered in the boxing industry" or not.

That's cute and all but you might want to check into HBO's stance on the matter.CaptainSpacerod wrote:Very few boxers have big fanbases. I don't think anyone can match the sized snowflake Ward has become. He's got daddy issues, first needing Kovalev to "admit that he lost", now this stunt with HBO. Reeks of a need for validation that he'll never get.

I'm sure HBO want him to fulfill his contractual obligations to publicize the fight but I don't see how that's relevant.Blodhemn wrote: That's cute and all but you might want to check into HBO's stance on the matter.

Aside from cold hard cash, his undefeated record and status as a 2 weight world champion is all the validation he needs I'd guess. The guy deserves more respect. He proves himself to be far and away the best super mid in the world then after a period of relative inactivity he has a couple of tune up fights before stepping up a weight to face an undefeated wrecking machine. Whether you agree with the verdict or not, his performance in that fight alone surely puts him above "daddy issues" comments by internet gobsh1tes disappointed that their favourite TV show might not be on.
