Don't forget Uaine "Junior" Fa. He's one big unit, a very good amateur, and IIRC is two and two with Parker as amateurs. I reckon he's far more likely to emerge onto the world stage than Sonny Bill or Hemi wouldn't you say?Gnome wrote:Glorified sparring session but Parker looked very sloppy in the last few rounds. I think giving Cojanu three rounds was generous to the Romanian.
Parker will lose his belt if he steps up to Wlad/Wilder/AJ/Povetkin I think. Even that other Romanian, Hammer, would give him real problems I think.
I can imagine him losing a reunification bout next year and somehow teeing up an all NZ bout with Sonny Bill.

Definitely, but surely a SBW v Parker fight would gather for more interest in NZ (it would be a mismatch).candyslim wrote:Don't forget Uaine "Junior" Fa. Really? ... more interest than Parker v Fa?
I don't pretend to know about the Kiwi scene but that does surprise me.

Sadly Gnome is right. No-one in NZ even know who Junior Fa is and SBW is a massive drawcard in this country. A Parker v SBW fight would be a huge sell in this country despite it being a one-sided mismatch (thankfully the fight will never ever happen).

Can't see them putting him on in NZ again, I believe their sales were very poor for Hughie Fury before he bailed and they had to pay a kings ransom to land that
Re: Parker went to distance
I don't disbelieve you but I find that amazing. That can't last much longer surely. Sounds to me like Fa needs to target Williams but you can bet his people know who Fa is and would give him a wide berth. Is he even active?African Monkey wrote:Sadly Gnome is right. Fa has been very active since making his pro debut. He's about to have his 12th fight next week in 15 months. Williams is now playing rugby and I would be suprised if we ever saw him in the ring again.candyslim wrote:I don't disbelieve you but I find that amazing. That can't last much longer surely. Shane Cameron was quite big in NZ for someone so average so if Fa can stay unbeaten for the next year or 2 then we may see his profile rise, but it'll be tough for him with Parker getting all the limelight.

Re: Parker went to distance
I'd like to see Junior Fa against Tyrone Spong.
I heard rumours that Deontay Wilder wants to fight Parker next, now this is usually a sign that Wilder himself can't fight any time soon, or that he knows that Parker can't fight with Wilder any time soon. Somehow I really hope that this fight will happen, but if I was Parker I would also nagotiate with Hughie Fury at the same time, so if Wilder ducks this fight anyway, like has allways done against reasonable competition, at least the show could still go on with Hughie Fury instead.

Re: Parker went to distance
I won't say Parker is elite but he is a good fighter. He is still young & learning his craft. Of course he is going to struggle with Takam & Ruiz. Both those guys are top 20 heavyweights. He won narrow decisions. Cojanu had put on 30lbs since the Dennis loss. Parker is 6'4 245lbs & Cojanu made him look like a little kid. Cojanu is 6'7 or 6'8 & weighed 280lbs. He is a massive man & wasn't that aggressive. Parker actually got a good 12 round workout against a much bigger opponent. I thought Parker would crush him until I realize how big Cojanu was. He is definitely not the same fighter he was fighting Dennis. He is a lot bigger now. He actually could be a good opponent for many guys who need to get rounds in & need experience against a big HW but are in really no danger of getting knocked out...
Re: Parker went to distance
Yeah so would I but Spong's last two opponents have had thirty fights between them and mustered one draw and zero wins !asdfjkl wrote:I'd like to see Junior Fa against Tyrone Spong
I mean seriously, what is the fornicating point. Spong is a vastly experienced world level MMA / UFC whichever TF it was, what the hell can he be learning from "fights" like these???
Fa isn't much better. A 28 year old former amateur star who's had a dozen or so pro fights most recently against Keith Barr and Daniel Tai. I guess at least they could boast a winning record.
I despair though: When you look at top heavyweight prospects everywhere (Sergei Kuzmin, Trevor Bryan, Michael Wallisch, Cassius Chaney, etcetera, etcetera) they appear to be going absolutely nowhere, and they aren't all in the first flush of youth either.
Stop messing about and start futhering your careers FFS !

Tyrone can't find opponents, that's his problem, he's traveling all over the world to find them and is often scheduled to fight someone and in the end they don't show up anyway, things like that.candyslim wrote:Yeah so would I but Spong's last two opponents have had thirty fights between them and mustered one draw and zero wins !asdfjkl wrote:I'd like to see Junior Fa against Tyrone Spong

He has 8 fights know, in 6 different country's (he fought in Russia, Germany, America, Mexico, Dominican republic) and that's just his boxing carreer.
He now has another 2 fights scheduled, one in America and the following day (yes, you read that right, the following day several 1000 miles away) in Mexico.
But indeed, once again, guys with better records, like Mike Balogun and Zhilei Zhang simply refuse to fight him, at the same event.
Re: Parker went to distance
I understand some fighters want no part of Spong, but you're not telling me the best guys he can get to face him are nought and thirty, and nought and thirty with one draw?
These would-be-opponents - or should that be wouldn't-be-opponents, you speak of, they do know he isn't allowed to kick them, right?
I bet guys like Avery Gibson or Rodney Hernandez would fight him and he'd know afterwards that he'd been in a fight.
Jamal Woods, Mike Greer, Stacey Frazier, Zack Page, Jason Gavern, Kamil Sokolowski, Joey Abel, Eric Bahoeli, Jason Bergman, Julius Long, Ytalo Perea, Brian Minto, Dominic Guinn, Joey Dawejko, Fred Kassi ... just a few fighters off the top of my head, of differing abilities, who I'd be willing to bet would be genuinely amused or annoyed, depending on temperament, if it were suggested they lacked the guts to fight Tyrone Spong.
Is everyone running scared of all the other prospects who are standing still too?

Correction: that's 0-30-1 between his last two opponents, I've made it sound like they are each 0-30-1 and 0-30.

Re: Parker went to distance
Well, let it happen, I really hope you will succeed, Tyrone once openly spoke about Nick Webb on twitter, but Nick decided to fight some cruiserweight with a losing record instead.
Re: Parker went to distance
Fa has a fight this week in Auckland against Hunter 7 losses in a row Sam.
Not exactly extending himself. A workmate of the missus is on the card debut so I'm going to have to wait until the weekend to watch it.
I think is a charity event

Re: Parker went to distance
Probably because Nick has ambitions of his own. Prospects don't like risking their "0". What you need is some tough mothers with plenty of "0"s acquired in hard fights with guys who are aiming for the top.asdfjkl wrote:Well, let it happen, I really hope you will succeed, Tyrone once openly spoke about Nick Webb on twitter, but Nick decided to fight some cruiserweight with a losing record instead.

Depressing isn't it? Fa could be right behind Parker if he showed a little more ambition. Fighters like Peter Graham, Bowie Tupou, Willie Nasio, would at least fight back.
Re: Parker went to distance
That's why I mentioned it's a charity event. Not a career move for sure.
Fa had a 3 fight deal in the US, I'm not sure what stage that is at.
Perhaps someone knows.
He was quite impressive as an amateur, although I only saw two of his fights.

Yeah I should cut him some slack for the charity turn out but it's because he was such a good amateur I'm expecting big things from him. Bigger than maj decs over journeymen that's for sure.KiwiRider wrote:That's why I mentioned it's a charity event. Not a career move for sure.

Then how did the likes of Joshua find opponents so easily? Or Dubois right now?asdfjkl wrote:Tyrone can't find opponents, that's his problem, he's traveling all over the world to find them and is often scheduled to fight someone and in the end they don't show up anyway, things like that.

Re: Parker went to distance
I haven't been remotely impressed by Fa (aside from the MD, his legs were momentarily turned to jelly by 1-2 Jayson Aloese), and I don't think he'll be a player in the division beyond a potential domestic showdown with Parker.
Re: Parker went to distance
Well his last two opponents were not exactly household names, except maybe in their own households, and one held Fa to a majority decision. I'm not inclined to write him off because of that but it's hardly going to get people arguing with your observation Crusader.
Re: Parker went to distance
Then maybe Tyrone needs to change promoter then. Even David Allen is getting more airtime than the highly talented Spong...asdfjkl wrote:Because he could generate more crowd, money and already won Olympic gold.Rob3_142 wrote:Then how did the likes of Joshua find opponents so easily? Re: Parker went to distance
Junior Fa laboured to a points victory over Hunter Sam in a 6 rounder. Very unimpressive performance from him.
