Apparantly the judge in question is in his 80s and had asked a photographer which one was Burnett, the guy told him it was the red corner, the judge mustve thought he meant red shorts :o

An absolute farce, why would the IBF use a judge in their 80s??

No he didn't. He was awful and considered quitting many times in the fight

Say what you want about Haskins at least Ryan actually beat a belt holder as there are far too many fighters winning vacant belts these days.

Haskins is a tough tough man but I think that is the last we see of him.

Very good for boxing in Belfast last night. The atmosphere looked good throughout and the crowd were getting behind the undercard fighters.

As for Burnett's future Hearn said he has a mandatory v Emmanual Rodriguez ( never heard of him) may get a fight with McDonnel in first which would be interesting. Burnett has a belt but he is a distance from facing a Yamanaka ( WBC and ring magazine champion) or Zolani Tete. Great learning fight for him last night though.

I thought Burnett was horrific to watch after a while. That was a horrible style to watch with him herky jerky feinting for 30+ seconds at a time without throwing a punch. I can understand that he was offsetting Haskins with his movement and feints and it was good for a few rounds but it got too repetitive without Burnett actually pushing it. It was clear that Haskins was outclassed and he was getting white washed on the cards. Haskins was injured and giving out distress signals at times and was there to be hit and hurt but we still had Burnett with the herky jerky feinting and not throwing anything for large spells for the majority of the rounds. I was watching the fight with casuals and they lost interest in it after the seventh and didn't really pay attention to the rest. The next time Burnett fights they won't be clamoring to come over and watch the fight.

Compare that to someone like Lomachenko (I know Burnett is nowhere near that league but hear me out). I've had them round to watch Lomachenko and even though they've never heard of him before they all really like him and ask me when he's fighting next. Why? Because he doesn't just settle for the 12 round victory when he has his man outclassed like Burnett did. If he puts some punches together and puts it on Haskins in the second half of the fight he would definitely have had him out of there last night. Yes he won the world title but how many casuals did he turn off? Then again, maybe I'm the mug for having casuals around to watch a Burnett Haskins fight.

The lack of professionalism in boxing never ceases to amaze me tbh. There was a prizefighter fught once when Ian JL scored it 30-29 in favour of a fighter that was dropped in one of the rounds. I was certain he got the fighters mixed up but nothing was ever made of it.

I've been very critical of Burnett in the past mainly for the reason you pointed out. He doesn't finish opponents off. He carried Booth and carried Settoul ( which I was at on Quigg v Frampton). Then again Lomachenko had that same problem before the Rocky Martinez fight. ( not to suggest Burnett is in the same league)

Haskins is also an extremely difficult fighter to face due to his awkward style.
He really did try to put Haskins away but Haskins is a seriously tough man and he deserves credit for that. ( watch his fight v Jamoye )

Weren't the best fight but certainly better than what I expected. Not one for the "casuals" but the atmosphere looked good there and hopefully they build in it because Frampton isn't going to be fighting in Belfast regularly ( or at all) after July 29th.

Interesting to see what he achieves from now on as the weight class is very difficult. I just hope for regular shows at the Belfast Arena because it is a class weekend I would recommend to anyone on the forum.

I give him a chance of beating McDonnell and Zhakiyanov but I would not be confident of picking him.

Can't see the others happening. However Yamanaka may lose his next fight against Luis Nery another young promising fighter. Nery would be making a SERIOUS statement if he leaves Japan with the WBC and Ring magazine belts.

His best clanger by far was enzo/ovill stoppage when he shat the bed. From tje same guy who let Shannon Briggs take one of the most brutal beatdowns ive ever seen. That scorecard was the worst i've seen though.

Moving off topic from the ridiculous Haskins scorecard, Ryan Doyle posted on Instagram he's broke a few bones in his hand (which was also why he was retired). Hope it's not too serious and doesn't affect him much moving forward.

Ya, and while Robert Smith made a point of saying that Sammartino wont be back, pretty much nothing is done about British officials like IJL, who repeatedly fornicate things up.

I agree

Burnett fast and effective, but he feints more than he punches and seems happy just to shade rounds and win decisions.

So whats the deal with one judge getting the 2 boxers mixed up? So scored the fight wrong as he thought lne was the other.

Seems to be the case, and while a big deal is getting made of it, I think it's actually worse when someone knows who the fighters are, but still turns in a shitty card. I'd like to see Robert Smith take a stand against the poor officiating that goes on regularly in the UK (hi IJL), rather than what appears to be a one-off mistake from a visiting judge. I guess Bob is too cozy with his A-star pals though...

At least Sammartino seemed to realize that the guy in the red shorts was dominating

I agree with the the complain but not with diagnosis. I think Burnett tried his best to take Haskins out without getting reckless. He just could not do it. His dominance never was as pronounced as Lomachenkos against his opponents, even in the last rounds. The reason I think is that he lacks punch variety. Most of his offensive work is done with the right hand, straight and hook. Lomachenko can hit with left and right, jab, uppercuts, hooks, body and head. He overwhelms opponents. As I already said Burnett needs to work on his left. I was looking how he throws left hook to the body and its perfunctory. Adam Booth said there is more to come from Burnett. And I believe him, Burnett can grow as a fighter.

So don't get me wrong here. It was a monumental booboo by the old chap judging, but all he seems guilty of is not knowing which colour shorts the fighters had on.

On a positive note his scoring was alright and he managed it without having to watch too much of it which unfortunately I did. Haskins can show glimpses of being great to watch but generally his style clashes with the opposition and it becomes a turgid viewing and a battle not to look away. And that's when he's got both arms working. On the other hand I find him an honest and likeable guy.

What amazed me the most is that after all that time totting up the cards they still managed to get that score in the ring and announce it. Robert Smith can castigate all he likes about the guy never coming back but the process after not allowing it to be rectified before being announced is a complete joke.

And if his only error was which fighter was which the it's not half as bad as some of the scores you see where one of the judges has got the fighters the right way round but just blatantly scored in favour of the home/Hearn fighter despite them being outclassed.

I disagree. There's no way he tried his best to get the stoppage. He was feinting way too much and not throwing. If he had thrown more and been more aggressive he would have got Haskins out of there, absolutely no question about it. He was able to catch Haskins with the straight right and also able to come inside and catch him with shots too. Look at how he drops him in the 6th. He was coming forward and backing Haskins to the ropes and throwing shots. He did that very rarely but when he committed and got Haskins backing up, he landed clean shots. But he was happy to be tied up inside and then back to the 30+ seconds of feinting and the lead right hand and repeat.

I think he's got decent punch variety when he wants to but he looked like he was boxing to instructions and just throwing the odd jab and lead right and the odd left behind it. Then back to the herky jerky.

For me and the casuals I was watching it with (all Irish by the way), a horror to watch after the midway mark and certainly doesn't fill me with anticipation of watching his next fight.

He had to back off because Haskins was throwing back and was landing himself. Burnetts advantage of speed and accuracy would have been negated if he stayed in the pocket and trade. Haskins has slow hands but he will land big against a static object. Yes he could have done little more but I dont think he would get a stoppage without going out his way and becoming reckless.

Frampton stopped 1 out of 6 his last opponents but he is still very popular. I think Burnett have done very well in his first title fight against a champion, quite early in his carrier. He will improve in time and those fans will come back I am sure. After all this is now the only Irish world champion.
