Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
The WSB gloves reduced the significance of power in those bouts. Also, Usyk didn't fight anyone like the current version of AJ.
I think he can do well at HW, but AJ would be a step too far in my opinion. I'd rather have Usyk testing himself against the best at CW, and I'd love to see him in the Super Series with the likes of Briedis and Gassiev.

If Usyk doesn't sign for Schaefer's tournament, it will say everything about his and his management's confidence in his abilities.

Usyk has beaten Mchunu, Glowacki, and Hunter. All three are very good wins. He didn't even have to fight someone slippery like Mchunu who would make most everyone else looks horrible, but no, he's afraid.

Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
If Usyk thinks he can make up for that massive size difference against Joshua has he is dreaming. Joshua would beat down Usyk like the proverbial red-headed stepchild!!
Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
Size will absolutely be an issue if/when he fights JoshuaMexi-Box wrote:This thread is full of misinformed cretins.
Size wasn't an issue when Usyk was beating super heavyweights in WSB with bigger gloves.
Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
I don't even think it'd be Usyk's hardest fight. Joshua has zero stamina and wouldn't at all be able to deal with a lateral mover. What happens if he can't KO Usyk early? A long night of endless counters.

Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
Has usyk become the cruiser version of Floyd mayweather? Is he an unhittable bar of soap? He's very good 200lber. Fights with good speed, movement, out put, for a man of his size. If Joshua doesn't knock him out early I'd expect a burst from him going right at usyk. He wouldn't escape big punchers from a guy of Joshua's physical size. And when he gets chinned he goes the same way as all the others.Blodhemn wrote:I don't even think it'd be Usyk's hardest fight. I get people want Joshua to get beat, but be realistic

Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
It is impossible to argue with people who base their rankings on records. A limited fighter used his puncher's chance to stop out of prime (maybe even shot) Huck, and he suddenly becomes #2 ??? Or is it a win over Cunningham which achieved that ???Ruthless-RKO wrote:He was definitely top 3 CW at the time he got beat.boxing_rocks wrote:Glowacki is not #2, not even top 5.Mexi-Box wrote: The guy who beat the #2 cruiserweight in the world with only a few fights under his belt is scared of someone?![]()

Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
Hopefully he enters that Cruiserweight Tournament that Schaefer is doing, and if he wins that, that would be a good momentum boost for him to go up to Heavyweight.
Hopefully he's smart enough to fight his way up the ladder before taking on the likes of Joshua.

Of course, but, Usyk is more skillful. So, I will repeat - It would be 50/50 fight.Ossyrules wrote:Size will absolutely be an issue if/when he fights JoshuaMexi-Box wrote:This thread is full of misinformed cretins.
Size wasn't an issue when Usyk was beating super heavyweights in WSB with bigger gloves.
Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
Each to there own, but in my mind it's far from 50/50. The heavyweight champ of the world is big favourite over the cruiserseight champValMar wrote:Of course, but, Usyk is more skillful. Spoken about heavyweights btw, I wouldn't even be that surprised if Helenius loses his match this week, in my opinion he's not that good at this moment and his opponent might look like a nobody, but could very well show up in better shape as expected.
Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
Usyk brings his own brand of slick oil, and it'd especially be apparent against a stiff HW. Apparently he made Wlad look bad in sparring. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.Ossyrules wrote:Has usyk become the cruiser version of Floyd mayweather? Is he an unhittable bar of soap? He's very good 200lber. Re: Usyk is Hoping To Eventually Fight Anthony Joshua
I guess stamina is the main remaining question mark over Joshua, but I don't think that his throwing everything at Klitschko prematurely and punching himself to a standstill is necessarily indicative of stamina issues, more likely inexperience leading to poor resource management. He will learn from that.
I'd certainly give Usyk more chance against him than most, but don't forget Joshua isn't just a huge man, he is a quality boxer with good skills. Usyk has beaten guys as big as Joshua and arguably more skilled than Joshua, but has he beaten anyone who is both as big and as skilled as Joshua?
Klitschko is extremely tricky as well as a tremendous puncher. He managed to lure Joshua on to a ferocious right hand that landed flush, and while nobody would pretend Joshua wasn't greatly affected by it, he was able to survive, recharge, and ultimately stop the equally huge Klitscko. Whether he should have been allowed to do that is another question for another thread, however ...
I would never suggest that Usyk can't punch, but even at Cruiser he seems more of a wear-'em-down type. I seriously question whether he has the power to keep Joshua from thinking he can take liberties. Usyk is very difficult to hit but if you are quick and powerful yourself and have little need to worry about what's coming back at you, it means you can devote time on winkling your tricky opponent out of his defensive shell.
I remember the fight between ATGs Jose Napoles (wwt) and Carlos Monzon (mwt) thinking Monzon has all the physical advantages but "Mantequilla" has supreme boxing technique, and the speed to make a monkey of him. I genuinely couldn't decide who I thought would win. It wasn't even close, Monzon crushed him like a bug. I mention his only because it taught me that if you're good enough you can beat a bigger man, but if he can match you for ability or nearly match you for ability, then you have got some very serious problems.

He may make Wlad or Joshua look bad for some time, but eventually he is getting flattened. I expect the same if he fights Gassiev.Blodhemn wrote:Usyk brings his own brand of slick oil, and it'd especially be apparent against a stiff HW. Apparently he made Wlad look bad in sparring. By the way, still no news about him intending to join the CW tournament. Quite the opposite:
