Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
Genius idea to bolster some attention to a division that gets very little of it. I've always been a fan of the CW division. I hope that these fighters do not disappoint or we end up with a whole different roster of boxers after substitutions during the tournament.
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
I haven't read specifics - is this a single elimination type tournament or that fighting for a playoff seed crap of the Super 6? The former is much better since it doesn't tie up fighters for a couple of years, or give them an excuse to bow out, both of which happened in mentioned tourny.

Actually that was a pretty poor fight, I do like the way Briedis moves for a big guy thoughGnome wrote:Except Briedis v Huck. That stunk.handsofstone wrote:Cruiserweights never fail to disappoint

Er don't you mean exactly the opposite?handsofstone wrote:Cruiserweights never fail to disappoint
I am so looking forward to this. I admire any top cruiser who has the cajones to enter this tournament. The winner is going to have to really earn it

Ah! I misread this. Cruisers are usually great.candyslim wrote:Er don't you mean exactly the opposite?handsofstone wrote:Cruiserweights never fail to disappoint

Cruiser is fuckingg awesome no doubt
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
Yes Roberto - I was sure that's what you meant
It's great. Some used to think of cruiserweight as a bastard division artificially squeezed into the gap between two pukka divisions, Heavyweight and Light-Heavyweight. Kind of ironic when you think about it because if you go back far enough that must have been how the Light-Heavyweight division was viewed between Heavyweight and Middleweight .
I prefer to think of Cruiserweight as the old Heavyweight division, in fact modern Cruiserweights are signicantly bigger at 200 lbs than some of the great heavyweights of the past. Hard to imagine Rocky Marciano conceding 15lbs to a Usyk, a Briedis or a Gassiev.
So instead of some dodgy hybrid division we have a new improved Heavyweight division (Cruiser) and a whole new dreadnought division (Heavy) for these young Titans that mother-nature is pumping out these days. Now if we could just get these enormous buggers to actually fight each other

Great news
I am really looking towards this.
I also really hope that Usyk will be part of this.
IF all goes as planned we might even have new p4p number one

Almost no chance of it happening, but it would be fantastic if Andre Ward threw his hat in the ring.
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
As good as Ward is, surely cruiserweight would be a step too far? I thought he looked smaller than Kovalev in the ring.
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
If there is one sport where weight is even more important than boxing it is wrestling. I don't think that Ward would have success at cruiser.Gnome wrote:Almost no chance of it happening, but it would be fantastic if Andre Ward threw his hat in the ring.
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
I agree, but never know where his ego will take him though. Look at Bellew. Ward has the class to give these guys problems for sure, I think.IT wrote:As good as Ward is, surely cruiserweight would be a step too far? I thought he looked smaller than Kovalev in the ring.
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
Ward can have some success at CW, though I think he's maxed out his effectiveness as far as size goes. Bellew isn't as talented or skilled, but he's a naturally bigger guy with the pop to get respect at cruiser.

Yeah, single elimination and they will have alternates booked for the undercards just in case. So the replacements are already on board. It also is looking to be done by May, instead of the decade the sorry ass super 6 took.Blodhemn wrote:I haven't read specifics - is this a single elimination type tournament or that fighting for a playoff seed crap of the Super 6? Much, much better. Super 6 is a class study of how not to handle a boxing tourny.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yeah, single elimination and they will have alternates booked for the undercards just in case. Glowacki is in, looks good that Usyk will also join. Hopefully, they're just saving the 168 guys to have some drama leading into the fighter seedings. It's a week from Saturday.

I am jizzing over this
Re: Gassiev, Briedis, Wlod sign with Schaefers Super Series
I don't think it's a matter of size as much as it's a matter of skill. Ward's thrill-ride stops at Usyk.IT wrote:As good as Ward is, surely cruiserweight would be a step too far? I thought he looked smaller than Kovalev in the ring.

He's not confirmed yet, but I'm sure he'll at least be an alternate.handsofstone wrote:Is it true that Kudryashov is in??

They gotta get Kud in for the KTFO factor. I read an article suggesting that he wants to join, and the same article noted that Lebedev has other plans.

I haven't seen anything about Huck and you never know if a light heavy quietly applied for a slice of that cash.
