Much respect to Julio, but he was fortunate tjat Camacho had faded, Whitaker was robbed, and Taylor given a fortunate break.

The reality is great fighters always believe they can win. There has to be a reason in their mind when they lose. It isn't possible to them otherwise. They all do it. No doubt Chavez went down a dark path with the Narcos, etc. When they win (which they mainly do) with injuries, drug and alcohol issues, life troubles, etc, no one says a word. When they lose doing the same things.... It is rolled out. Chavez was one of the greatest fighters of all time. Whitaker was a genius and also one of the greatest. Bad stylistic match up for sure for Chavez. Only thing I disagree here on is the Delahoya fight. I called it a draw. I remember betting $500 that Whitaker would be Trinidad. Sad night. I had Whitaker winning 118-110 against Chavez. Might be the worst decision ever. What a great era so many tough guys.

He was also VERY fortunate that Salvador Sanchez died at age 23. He and Sanchez were very close in weight and Sanchez was taller so he would have grown into higher weight classes with JCC and handed him another 2-3 losses!! Salvador was more of a boxer-puncher...he could outbox you OR KO you.Nile4000 wrote:Much respect to Julio, but he was fortunate tjat Camacho had faded, Whitaker was robbed, and Taylor given a fortunate break.
Some folks think JCC came at just the right time to fill the void in Mexican fans' hearts after Sanchez's untimely, tragic death in an auto accident!! SS was a MUCH more complete fighter than JCC.

Agreed, better fighter. Chavez isn't quite as overrated as Lopez, but the default best Mexican title is absurd. He might not make my top 5.

If IF's and BUT's were peanuts and nuts, we'd all have a plentiful Christmas Julio.
Do us all a favor...you and your Son just go away. That would be great...thanks.

That is true. If Salvador fought and beat Alexis, a big IF, and beat some of the other lights, another big IF, he definitely would have taken Julio in a fight.

Chavez Jr's dad didn't teach him how to box... Chavez is about the most inept boxer I've ever seen at a World Level.. He had a great chin to start with.. He'd be better off with a good trainer and he picked up all his vices from his dad.. Like father like son.. Winning 100 fights in a row will be achieved in the future.. even if it's 300 years from now. What the Hell difference will it make 1000 years from now when your records are buried by somebody else? There really no immortality.. If he didn't do drugs and booze, of course Chavez Sr. would have been much better, but he was great as it is.
Chris Eubank would be better off without his dad as well.. Sr. grabs all the attention with his tailored suits and pompous pontificating.. Floyd's dad and uncle were major assets.. Whether your dad is a good influence or a bad influence is a 50/50 shot.. Half these fathers get in the way more than anything else.
I've talked to a lot of buddies on their death beds who did a lot of booze, babes, and drugs. Some are very remorseful and in tears. Some say they wouldn't change a thing. They might have lived another 20 or 30 years, but grabbing whatever pleasures life presents was their choice -- and they lived it up AMAP.
