Re: best US boxer from each state (in past 40 years)
Holyfield is from Georgia
Holmes "The Easton Assassin" is from Pennsylvania.
Frankly I don't figure this is all that important of a thing to note anyway, unless you're FROM that state it's not that big a deal to you. Hell even if you are it's probably not that big a thing for most.

I was using birth place.

Louisiana - Muhammad ali
Re: best US boxer from each state (in past 40 years)
Kentucky, right?
When I think about things like this, I always arbitrarily limit them to my own lifetime, which happens to mean the past 40 years. In that time, he beat Leon Spinks, then retired, and... I like to pretend he had the sense to just stay retired.

Ross Puritty is a great guy but Oklahoma would have to be Sean O'Grady or Tommy Morrison.

Nice. A lot of those countries I'd not have been able to come up with anyone.dagilechia wrote:once i made something similar for most of European countries if someone is interested:

Re: best US boxer from each state (in past 40 years)
he is but he fights as a German, a lot of Germany's best fighters are in fact foreigners like Sturm is Bosnian, Huck is Bosnian, Stieglitz is born in Russia and he is probably an ethnic Jew, Rocchigniani is of Italian origin, Arslan is Turkish and so onOssyrules wrote:I thought Abraham was Armeniandagilechia wrote:once i made something similar for most of European countries if someone is interested:

Not over Benitez, but Benny Leonard is the guy.squiggy wrote:Argument could be made for him, of course.
Georgia would be Ray Robinson.
As much as I love Holyfield, Alabama is Joe Louis.
Maryland: joe Gans
