Taylor vs Chavez
Taylor vs Chavez
I'm surprised nobody has made this topic yet, perhaps no one else was watching last night.
The end of that special almost had me in tears. How could they still let poor Meldrick fight? Did you see what he's become? People say Evander, and Tommy Hearns sound terrible, but you can't understand anything coming from Meldrick, and he's only 36.
I think the special last night proved that we without a doubt need to get rid of the Douche BAG ( refer to http://www.boxrec.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8723 ) and every other jack off commission. This kind of thing won't stop until the government steps in.
Meldrick still thinks he's as good as he was in his prime!! Take a look for yourself http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=000553 . Everyone says that someone needs to beat someone into retirement, but I just don't think that will work. some people are too far gone, and delusional. And all it's going to do, is damage them even more.
Well, that's all I can think to write, hopefully you guys will reply with some decent information and/or comments.

Yeah, I saw that too, Tantum. I had seen interviews with Taylor a few years ago, and remember thinking he was a little slurred, but he was nothing like the clip of him in '02! What I want to know is, where is he fighting? Because somebody has to license him to box in their state, and surely they TALK to the guy when they're considering licensing him. If I was the licensor, I'd have about 10 words with the guy, and say, "Hell no, this guy ain't fighting in this state!" He sounds like somebody I once knew who was in a near-fatal car accident and had severe brain damage, or another guy I knew who had cerebral palsy, for God's sake! Or somebody who's close to dying of alcohol poisoning! Damn!

I watched it as well last night, it was very sad to see taylor like that, i just hope someone from his team does something, cause i agree with the rest of you guys their is no way in hell this guy should continue to fight. Another thing i noticed form last nights program was it me or was it that they seemd to focuse more on Taylor than Chavez, anyone else noticed that.

I noticed they emphasized Taylor more than Chavez. I guess that could be a combination of things. First, I'm half-expecting one of those HBO "Legendary Nights" shows to be totally about Chavez's career, so they didn't want to get too deeply into his career in this one. Second, I think they were hoping for the kind of reaction they seem to have gotten out of us, and that is the human-interest story of Taylor's still-ongoing career, hell, it's got me stirred-up! Third, did you notice how many times Richard Steele was interviewed, and his name brought up, and how the show seemed to lean towards saying what an injustice it is that some people would accuse Steele of improper fight-stoppage, just because of his friendship with Don King, and the fact that he stopped that fight with 5 seconds to go? Makes me wonder if one of the producers of that episode might be King and/or Steele himself!TonyJ wrote:I watched it as well last night, it was very sad to see taylor like that, i just hope someone from his team does something, cause i agree with the rest of you guys their is no way in hell this guy should continue to fight. I remember seeing Frazier being inerviewed a while ago an another special and I thought he was hard to understand, but you can't even compare his state to that of Taylor's. I hope Taylor stops boxing soon.
I think Taylor boxing shows that we need a national comission instead of state commissions. :x
Does anyone think that his state will eventually lead to severe damage like retardation or even a premature death?

i doubt it. there's only 5 more shows left and none of them include another chavez fight. i hope they make another season of legendary nights but i dont see it happening.First, I'm half-expecting one of those HBO "Legendary Nights" shows to be totally about Chavez's career, so they didn't want to get too deeply into his career in this one.

Why not? They have plenty of other great fights they could air. I'm sure they will have atleast one more season. Think about it, they did show clips from atleast a dozen other fights not included (yet).matador wrote:i doubt it. there's only 5 more shows left and none of them include another chavez fight. i hope they make another season of legendary nights but i dont see it happening.First, I'm half-expecting one of those HBO "Legendary Nights" shows to be totally about Chavez's career, so they didn't want to get too deeply into his career in this one.
