Why is he different than any other belt holder moving up in weight over the last few decades?

That's what he'd have to do to actually be the most deserving contender out there in my view. He certainly won't have to actually do that to earn a shot. Nobody earns a shot anymore.

Did Charlo beat somebody who would defeat today's Tureano?
Johnson is a C-level fighter who has beaten nobody good, ever. Trout would beat him, and Bundrage circa a few years ago probably would too. Hell Julian Williams would as well.
no
Yes. Sorry.

Agreed shots are rarely earned. So a beltholder that booked two tough fights that he didn't have to tops that list for me. I wouldn't say Jacobs didn't earn a rematch, but he didn't 'earn' the first fight. Like you said nobody earns it anymore, even when they did an undefeated guy with a belt moving up in weight was still considered an immediate contender, if not given an immediate shot.

Williams....now there's a guy who has been rated highly despite beating pretty much no one.

Johnson we saw on Friday would walk through Trout stopping him in spite of possibly losing every round before that.
