That's what he'd have to do to actually be the most deserving contender out there in my view. He certainly won't have to actually do that to earn a shot. Nobody earns a shot anymore.

Johnson is a C-level fighter who has beaten nobody good, ever. Trout would beat him, and Bundrage circa a few years ago probably would too. Hell Julian Williams would as well.

Agreed shots are rarely earned. So a beltholder that booked two tough fights that he didn't have to tops that list for me. I wouldn't say Jacobs didn't earn a rematch, but he didn't 'earn' the first fight. Like you said nobody earns it anymore, even when they did an undefeated guy with a belt moving up in weight was still considered an immediate contender, if not given an immediate shot.
