Just checked migz top 10 thread and thought about this...
What is the biggest p4p argument? Here's a few which get under people's skin...
Who should rate highest?
Saddler-Pep
Charles-Moore
Duran-Leonard
Jofre-Harada
There are others, what are they and which one of these is the most contentious?
What is the biggest p4p argument?
I rate Moore over Charles, and Jofre over Harada. As for Saddler-Pep, that's a really hard one. I think an argument in favor of Pep or Saddler can be made (Saddler's got plenty of other impressive wins) And finally for Duran-Leonard, I rate Leonard higher, whether it's Sugar Ray or Benny. Ray beat the guys Duran couldn't, and Benny's resume is more impressive.
People who don't have high KO totals are almost frowned upon in most P4P rankings. I think it's because theres a notion that P4P is a domination thing, and a KO is ultimate domination over another fighter. However, there have been many great defensive, and technically sound boxers who never carried a big punch because it didn't fit their style.
Moore over Charles is a hard one for me to swallow. I know jaclem and Buzz debated the LH issue but this is different. Charles won the HW crown and only failed to win the LH crown because he was frozen out.Seamus wrote:I rate Moore over Charles, and Jofre over Harada. As for Saddler-Pep, that's a really hard one. Duran was a smaller man than Ray Leonard and did more above LW than Benny.
Obviously it's all very close.
Anyone think of any other such tussles between clsoely linked all time greats?

Even though Moore floored Marciano, Charles was much more competitive with "The Rock" than Archie was. Yeah, styles make fights, but I think this also puts Charles ahead of Moore. He was better suited to fighting the heavyweights than Moore, and I think as you said, the middleweights and light heavyweights.BrocktonBlockbuster49 wrote:how can moore be over charles if charles was a better middleweight, light-H, and heavyweight than moore?
- charles also beat moore 3 times
