I think it does seem to be the circles you mix in. Without using anecdotal evidence along the 'my mates say this' line you'd be laughed at if you tried to suggest across the general public Fury is more popular than Joshua.

If Tyson was still boxing the Fury's would be making an absolute fortune. However, even if Hughie wins, he doesn't have the personality to carry it off - especially not with AJ being viewed as the "real" champion.
Why? Tickets for the Wlad rematch sold absolutely abysmally. People were still willing to pay for a Wlad fight, as evidenced by over 1.5m PPV buys and 90,000 tickets at Wembley.

I don't buy the idea whatsoever that Tyson is suddenly some massively popular boxer. He never has been, and being fat and inactive hasn't really helped anything. People would definitely pay big for the Joshua Tyson fight but beyond that? He could barely shift half an arena for Wlad - he'd do next to nothing against some likely comeback opponent like Helenius.

The white, northern, working class man 30-50, yes, I'd say so. AJ has the casual young southern divs sown up, and there's millions of them. Don't forget, most of my guys are boxing people.

If he's that popular in the north why are his ticket sales so poor? We all know the Wlad rematch sold terribly before it was pulled.

The prices for Wlad were silly. I've said he's grown more popular since the lay off... Haye sold out, thousands went out for Wlad, twice as many already paid for the original date.

Haye sold out because it was Haye in fairness. Tyson's been around for not that far off a decade and there's no real evidence that he's that popular, either when he was active or otherwise.

I've seen Haye at Euro level sell less than 200 tickets. Also AJ doing none in Manchester. They all need the right dance partner.

If we're playing that game I've seen Tyson and Hughie do nothing at world level and both do business in their home town that made Joshua in the same venue look like Chavez in Mexico City.

In terms of AJ v Tyson it's not really about popularity per se it's more brand recognition and clever marketing.

AJ has Eddie Hearn and Sky's colossal marketing machine to promote him whereas Tyson has Mick Hennessey and IFL.

AJ has been in trouble with the police for drug offences and has reportedly been an absent father yet Tyson as a good father and family man who's never been in trouble with the law is perceived by the wider public as a villain whereas AJ is the humble good guy.

Tyson went to the undisputed champ's backyard and sensationally upset the odds whereas AJ beat a diminished Wlad yet AJ gets all the plaudits whereas Tyson's achievement went pretty much unheralded.

The point I'm trying to make is that had Tyson been looked after by Hearn and Sky he'd be the good guy selling out arenas with 10million Twitter followers and if AJ had suffered the misfortune of signing up with Mick Hen he'd be the outsider villified in the media for his mistakes in life.

Does anyone think this one is going to fall through? Very little publicity.... even though Fury has tried with all his Rocky training gimmicks.

What it needs is Tyson to get involved and start throwing insults around and get some column inches.

Tyson's ranting about gays and women mean he's never going to be a mainstream success. Plus he's dull. Let's not forget his fight with Wlad got the full box office treatment and afterwards people panned it.

I agree with you he's never going to be a mainstream success and fairplay to him for being real to himself. In the crazy world we live in making tongue in cheek remarks with a twinkle in his eye about women while his wife looked on gets you more public opprobrium than being found guilty of possessing controlled substances with intent to supply - to kids in all probability. Where's the justice.

I wouldn't say he was a dull fighter although I can understand why your twice a year boxing fan would've found that fight dull. OK he's no knockout artist but neither was Floyd nor many box office fighters but they still seem to be popular.

Fury's last three fights were very boring. People talk about how bad the Wlad match was, but dear god Chisora II was even worse. He's gone down the Wlad route of sacrificing action for effectiveness, although at least Wlad had KTFO power to bring things to life in spots.

I thought in the million videos he has posted on YouTube etc he was coming back and gunning for Joshua ? .

I feel sorry for the people that actually believed him .

You must be kidding. The Klitschko fight was incredibly dull and an embarrassment to heavyweight boxing.

Sold out arena in NZ and coverage on allegedly in one hand and a mostly empty arena in England and hardly anyone watching on YouTube in the other. Hmmmmm, difficult choice. :maybe:

Why wouldcs drug dealer sell drugs to kids? Kids dont have any money. Drug dealers sell drugs to people who want to buy them. Yourd living inbs 1970s movie cliche if you believe drug dealers hsng around schools encouraging kids to do drugs.

By kids I mean teenagers.

Someone like him would certainly use kids (14,15,16 year olds as runners), a stones throw from Champs Camp in Moss Side for example you'll find plenty of very young looking lads cycling round the estate at all hours.

Homophobic rants might offend those with delicate sensibilities more but facilitating peoples' addiction to dangerous substances is of course far more damaging to the addicts and society in general

An embarrassment no way. Sport's about winning not entertaining the masses despite what the TV cheerleaders with their vested interests would have you believe.

Watching it again yes it was dull. But the entertainment in sport is mostly in seeing who will win especially on the biggest of stages. A cagey game of football with a late winner for one team can be fascinating to watch.

As the fight unfolded it was fascinating to see whether Wlad would come out of his shell or whether Tyson would doubt himself as the fight entered the championship rounds. It wasn't a classic in the traditional sense but it was still compelling viewing. Seeing a big underdog bamboozling a dominant champion with skilful ring craft isn't dull to my mind.

Every fight can't be a Hagler Hearns slugfest.

He got caught with weed. All teenagers are on! It's not hard to get a few quid each in for a teenth. A kid in my sons class,12yo, is at it everyday! And there's runners everywhere. I can get literally any drug delivered 24 hours a day, and I live in a reasonable area.

The rants about gays were direct quotes from the bible, he's a catholic. AJ is Nigerian so I'd imagine his family are all devout, and the gay thing over there.... He just keeps his gob shut!
