Adonis Stevenson vs. Eleider Alvarez Confirmed for December!

Post by Enlightened-One »

Dan Rafael:

The long overdue mandatory fight between light heavyweight world champion Adonis Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) and Eleider “Storm” Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs) is in the works, promoter Yvon Michel told ESPN on Wednesday. “We are looking for a December date in Quebec City,” said Michel of the fight that would match two Quebec-based fighters. Stevenson, who turned 40 last week, and Alvarez, 33, are on the same schedule as they fought on the same card in their last bouts on June 3 in Montreal. Stevenson drilled Andrzej Fonfara in the second round and Alvarez won a majority decision against former world champion Jean Pascal. For a variety of reasons, Stevenson, has not made a mandatory defense since stopping Tony Bellew in the sixth round in November 2013.

Thoughts? :-?

Somewhat interesting by Stevensons standards. Badou Jack would be better but it's not a bad fight. They both like to counter though, so it could end up being a very chess like matchup which could be boring to watch.

Are You kidding me? Alvarez would demolish Jack at this point. Go watch the 3 last fights of Eleider and come back with an opinion. The guy absolutely wants is chance for the title is eager a lot more than Jack. Stevenson will have a tough night and i would say he will lose is title on that night. Might be one of the reason he avoid him for 3 years now

last 3 fights of Alvarez are MD vs Pascal (not seen the fight so i dont know if it really was that close) KOed Lucian Bute, and a very close fight vs 19-5-1 Norbert Dabrowski... nothing impressive

If I could choose Stevenson's opponents, it would be something like this :
1. Beterbiev
2. Kovalev
3. Gvozdyk
4. Bivol
5. Jack
6. Alvarez

The only legit criticism that can be leveled at Stevenson related to this fight is that he waited so long.

This is a good legit defense.

I really think that 2017 will end up the best of this millenium (so far).

The fight vs Pascal wasn t close should have been a UD. Are you talking about the same Bute who got a draw vs Jack? Think it answer the question

I thought he won his last fight clear enough. But Jack keeps improving so who knows :maybe:

first of all - Jack should have get the decision vs Bute
second - Bute tested positive, this fight is DQ
third - his fight vs Dabrowski which is not a good fighter was like 96-94, 97-93
btw Pascal is very past prime

i don't want to say that Alvarez isn't a good fighter, i just think that opinion that his recent fights were very impressive is a bullshit
