Yes if people feel that strongly, write opinions about Hennessy 's promotional abilities but to get vindictive & personal is bang out of order.
I wonder, would people challenge Mick to his face?

I take it Mick banged the op mum or something or they are just a sad troll ,Mick took a risk on a young fighter in Hughie and it nearly came off we should be congratulating Mick not taking the Mickey

Re: Mick Hennessy update?
Mick was very unlucky losing ITV after Froch-Pascal. Fury's debut as well. I think the decision had already been made before the show, though.
Re: Mick Hennessy update?
ive often chatted with mick, not for a few years i might add, but always had time to natter, ask how my son was etc. all in all a decent man in a pit full of snakes.
Re: Mick Hennessy update?
He's a promoter. Froch had become a name - he's fighting Taylor - get it on TV, not some bullshit stream.mickey1975 wrote:Mick was very unlucky losing ITV after Froch-Pascal. Fury's debut as well. I think the decision had already been made before the show, though.
Mick always has excuses which are apparently beyond his control when his big name fighters end up with pathetic TV deals.
Re: Mick Hennessy update?
Hennessey might be a nice guy, but people mocking him is all of this is his own doing, ask yourself why the likes of Froch, Barker, Eubank, DeGale to name a few had left him, it’s because he is such a crap promoter, thats why people are against him! Those names are massive in British and World boxing and what has he got left, nothing.
He has just blown his load on an event that he done virtually nothing to sell, as a massive fan of the sport I believe he should of done his job and promoted the event and his fighter, as he didn’t why should he be exempt from the backlash? If he had done his job then no one could question it, but again he didn’t.
You wouldn’t see hearn spend that amount of cash on a event without actually trying to sell it out, even if his fighter wasn’t guaranteed to walk away with the title.

The response people give to this is 'Hearn is on Sky.' Fair enough, but it ignores so much more that those saying it seem totally myopic.Glass Joe wrote:Hennessey might be a nice guy, but people mocking him is all of this is his own doing, ask yourself why the likes of Froch, Barker, Eubank, DeGale to name a few had left him, it’s because he is such a crap promoter, thats why people are against him! As you say - he has had the names and they've gone. Put it this way - if Hearn booked Wembley for a Joshua fight and had three quarters of the whole stadium empty, what would be the reaction? "Hard luck Eddie - can't win em all." Not a chance. People on here would be pissing themselves.

People on here an awful lot more informed than you, believe it or not, Dirk, know Sky were ready to pull the plug on boxing altogether until Barry Hearn stepped in and asked them to help out Eddie. Barry's other productions make up a large % of Sky Sports programmes. Of course everyone else was going to struggle. They didn't take Matchroom because they were great, they were by far the worst when Sky shared with WAzza, Maloney, Hatton and Hearn.

Re: Mick Hennessy update?
Well....
This is not about Mick Hennessy in particular but it does apply, once a boxer is a 'name' they don't really need a promoter, just an event planner.
The real skill in promotion is creating that name to begin with.
When a boxer leaves a promoter because he has 'outgrown' them, or resents the money the promoter makes and wants some of that for themselves, well, surely that promoter has done a great job?

Yes agree Leejonesjnr but when Froch left hennessey he wasn’t that rich, he was fighting at the nottingham arena in front of 10k people, he left and joined hearn and look at him now set u for life, he fought in front of 80k at wembley earning millions. Froch’s fan based when he was with hennessey was zero, hearn somehow got people to like him.leejonesjnr wrote:Well....

People can think whatever they like about hennessey, nice guy or waste of space it’s our own opinion but at the end of the day he is a crap promoter who hasn’t made a lot of money for his boxers, he never really made any of his fighters in to house hold names has he? you can argue what you like about Fury but Tyson has done it all himself, not hennessey! hennessey cant even promote himself, have we heard from him since the parker fight, no! anything on his website or social media pages, no! thats what you call great promoting.
Yes hearn has the backing of sky, but give hearn the credit he actually works hard, hennessey had ITV and Channel 5, both with far more potential then sky, the ability to hit millions of viewers and what did he do, f**k it up….and we can’t blame the tv companies for all of it.

Fury has never been a big ticket seller. Sure some will point to the Wlad rematch tanking at the box office, which at least had an excuse of absolutely mental prices.Glass Joe wrote:Yes agree Leejonesjnr but when Froch left hennessey he wasn’t that rich, he was fighting at the nottingham arena in front of 10k people, he left and joined hearn and look at him now set u for life, he fought in front of 80k at wembley earning millions. I always remember Fury admitting he was jealous of David Price because he had a whole city behind him. This was after tickets for his fight with Pavjic at event city next to the Trafford centre didn't go so well.

Hennessy always seems like a decent guy and shouldn’t be getting personal abuse on here. He’s obviously made some fairly major mistakes in his promotions, and gambling so much on Hughie was a bit silly. But he doesn’t deserve to get mocked like some people are doing. We need as many boxing promoters to be successful as possible, I just don’t understand why it seems some posters are happier that he’s struggling.

Re: Mick Hennessy update?
Exactly the words you used Mickey1975 was NEAR SELL OUT, the arena only holds 10k, so what did he sell 8k, 9k ??? still no where near the 20k Froch done at the O2 arena or 80k at Wembley, so at the end of the day hennessey couldn’t sell out an arena when he was looking after froch, he has provide that time and time again!mickey1975 wrote:Froch-Pascal, Dirrel, Reid, that bloke from Derby were all near sell outs under Meaty Mick.
Hearn takes control and bam selling out arenas and 10’s of thousands at wembley. Can’t understand why people are sticking up for him, he has done nothing for the sport in recent years.

When you have to eat 70 pies a day, there’s not enough time to put together a decent undercard.

George Groves had as much to do with that as him. Bute nor Mack were sell outs and he took barely anyone to see the Ward fight.
