Oh, I think Jamie is going to bring it. His 0 is on the line too. His last fight showed improvement in defence. Unfortunately a lot of it was displayed out of range. If he further improves that, Groves isn't in for an easy a night as some predict. The one reoccurring critisism of Cox is that he is easy to hit. I've seen less of that lately.mfc_se15 wrote:On the flip side Cox is being so overlooked he can't be in need of anything else to fire him up for this one and invoke a bit of underdog spirit. I've seen nothing of Cox to suggest he can win however but you'd think he won't be lacking in the motivation for this one, massive name, belt on the, everyone writing you off and (I'd assume) an even bigger pay day after this one.KiwiRider wrote:It's getting close.
Eubank is already spouting off after his big win on the weekend.
Pressure is on George to make a big showing here.
This was my pick of the first round of the WBSS for entertainment factor.
Just hope whoever does it, doesn't pick up an injury. The fight with Eubank takes place in January so I've read not a massive amount of time if it was a significant injury.

Re: George Groves (c) vs. Jamie Cox - October 14th 2017
I used to really rate Cox, seems like a lifetime ago he was Commonwealth champ down at 154, I remember the fight with Sai where he really should've been DQ'd, he never really recovered from that fight, inactive ,problems outside the ring etc he's come back at 168, still looks strong, aggressive and throws shots with mean intentions, seems like his temprement is still an issue, the fight with Rios last year was an absolute shambles and Cox allowed himself to be dragged down to an inferior opponents level
Groves on the other hand is about as mentally strong as you can get IMO, has major self belief and becoming world champ will have surely got rid of any demons he had after his failed title attempts, he was excellent against Chudinov, gambled by throwing the kitchen sink and it paid off, I think a fully firing Cox makes this a close fight but Groves temprement, experience and natural size wins this for me, I doubt he can stop Cox and I reckon Jamie will make a good fist of it but Groves championship experience will see him a deserved winner me thinks

Groves has been there and done it. Cox has the all the questions marks against him (at this level).
George mustn't underestimate Cox and if he doesn't, then I fancy a stoppage win for Grove. Jamie won't have felt power like what Grove can generate in that right hand.

Anyone hear Eddie Hearn on Groves vs Cox?
Said Cox is the first puncher Groves has been in with since Froch ffs...
Cox, who couldn't finish an English level middleweight, has more power than the man who destroyed Cleverly and very nearly took James Degale out. Also dropped Groves.
He didn't just forget Jack either, he actually stated Jack was a non-puncher.

It's an interesting fight.
Like most people I'm expecting George Groves to win reasonably handily but that said, based on his career at 168 so far we really have no idea how good Jamie Cox is.

Who cuts Jamie's hair?
My mum used to inflict that on me in the 70's with home haircuts and "the mixing bowl"
Is it now 'a thing' to look like Forrest Gump?
I hope it doesn't catch on down here, I'll probably get the bash sniggering at numpties walking around with bowl haircuts.

Can't believe so many are writing Cox off. Has a great chance early. Since when did Groves have a good chin and was blowing hard vs Chudinov. Cox to blitz him inside three rounds.

Behave Ben... what has Cox done to remotely suggest he belongs in this class? Me thinks you are just trolling...Lightsoot wrote:Can't believe so many are writing Cox off. Has a great chance early. Re: George Groves (c) vs. Jamie Cox - October 14th 2017
The same as Groves had done prior to entertaining Froch, Jason. F*** all. But you're writing him off on that basis? Why? Because Groves is exceptionally good or because Cox has flattered to deceive?Deserter wrote:Behave Ben... what has Cox done to remotely suggest he belongs in this class? Groves suddenly doesn't become a different proposition as a bent holder, and the argument that Cox is a light-middle is stale. Chudinov's workfare gave Groves fits, he literally poured everything into it to get the win and well done George, but it was hard for him which many forget.
Cox has serious unfulfilled talent, will come out fast and relentless and I think he cracks hard enough to hurt Groves. Kenny Anderson was no banger, yet Groves was buzzed. Cox is a southpaw, has excellent punch variety, and over 4 rounds has a great chance.
It beyond 6, then Groves because I think Cox lacks discipline and will punch himself out. But don't discount him.

Sorry meant belt holder, not bent holder. F'ing predictive text. Ps I'm a big Groves fan.Lightsoot wrote:The same as Groves had done prior to entertaining Froch, Jason. F*** all. Boxers regularly take a big progressive step forward when they become a champion.Lightsoot wrote:Sorry meant belt holder, not bent holder. F'ing predictive text.
