Boycott Bunces Book
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
So painfully sensitive. Look, Bunce may have written the book but really it's about the fighters. The less people know about their achievements then surely you'd agree that's not a good thing? If Bunce has hurt your feelings to such an extent that you don't want to read about British boxing then you've got problems.
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
Haha! Painfully sensitive? Are you Buncey's relative or something? The ability to show empathy hardly equates to a painful level of sensitivity, unless you're a sociopath.veriton wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 08:11 So painfully sensitive. As for it being about the fighters, make your mind up fella, as a few posts earlier you were the one demonstrating a painful level of sensitivity when claiming that the livelihood of his family was at stake over a few forum posters boycotting his book... but now it's all about the fighters is it? OK, whatever...
Of course in adopting that stance you're acting as if he's the sole source of information, when ironically, thanks to the very internet he seems to despise, there is more material on those fighters than there's ever been.
When I was back in the UK last week I bought Boxing News and Boxing Monthly (I even read Buncey's colum in BM... gasp, shock, horror!). Over the years I've read dozens of books by the likes of Harry Mullan and Donald McRae (and let's be honest, when it comes to prose, Buncey ain't fit to carry their jockstraps
Given this, quite how you arrive at the conclusion I don't want to read about British boxing I have no idea. I think my knowledge and awareness of fighters' achievements will be just fine despite the huge, gaping hole that not reading Buncey's clumsy prose will leave in my life

Yes but don't air any negative views about him because he is painfully sensitive and might send round Big Dave!CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 08:45 Jesus christ there are some delicate flowers on here.

Its hard for boxers to make a living , its hard for writers to make a living , and its hard to get spots on tv to make a living .. Bunce is making a living and probably a decent one from writing , and going on tv , TALKING about boxing ,, I think his rants about people knowin nothing , and he knows everything are just that rants , it keeps people talking after all 9 pages about Bunce on a internet forum... Where do you live fella , Cmon does anyone really think he wants to know , or is it just giving people something to talk about , after all he's not excatly a scary fella is he , ,
Scenario little fat bald guy , who would only be able to hit a bag for a minuite before he collasped from a heart attack , rocks up to someones address, he demanded over the internet ,, guy at the address , punches fook out of him , all of a sudden the little fat bald guy would apear to be a little fat bald guy with a big mouth , who can't handle himself so therefore should'nt be commenting on genuine hardmen , get rid of him and out the window goes his living .
Or the other scenerio , little fat bald guy , just sits by the desk writing books , collums in papers , and apearing on tv , shooting his mouth of , thinking he's a hard man because he mixes with them , and making a good living , and all his talk is just that Talk , piss and wind and lots of bluster , but it keeps his profile up .. personaly i would say he's doing a good job , and that job is to keep himself out there and making a good living ,

Re: Boycott Bunces Book
yes, painfully sensitive is an apt description of bunce, say a critical word on a forum and youll get big dave giving the 'very upset' buncey your details for a meet up

do you say the same to your man bunce when you tweet him
i mean, cus when ppl say critical things to him he just doesnt poo poo them on a forum, he goes looking for a meet up. and its the forum regulars who get called sensitive
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
The notorious Big Dave from the Steel City, I bet those posters on Buncey's naughty list are sleeping very restlessly right now with Big Dave hunting them down. I even heard a rumour Big Dave is known as the Kevin Spacey of the boxing underworld.Coco wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 09:03Yes but don't air any negative views about him because he is painfully sensitive and might send round Big Dave!CaptainSpacerod wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 08:45 Jesus christ there are some delicate flowers on here.

but i do like a lot of stuff about bunce tbh. i do like the passion that comes out of him and i never find him drab. just think what he did here was a little childish
Re: Boycott Bunces Book
Rare photo of Big Dave. I wouldn't want him creeping up behind me down a dark alley.

Re: Boycott Bunces Book
I am so naïve that when I joined the forum I honestly thought that anyone remotely involved in the sport would be treated with respect because they were a little closer to the source than everyone else.
I've shocked at the way Bunce, Paul Smith, Tony Bellew, Shannon Briggs and others have been treated when they come on here.
I'm in no way a fighting man. But I'm a real fan and love the sport. If I reply to a post by Billy Nelson and he replies back I feel six inches taller...and I'm a middle-aged bloke who should know better. But this sport is so thrilling and the practice of it is so beyond me that I am still in awe of the people involved in it.

Usually when I reply to (Johnny) Nelson I get a message from Twitter telling me my account has been suspended.

ppl shouldnt be dsrespectful just to piss them off but at the same tme they shouldnt be put on a pedestal. ppl in the game can be pudenda and chat nonsense too and if they give it or say somethng stupd they should be prepared to get it back. thats cute that nelson merely acknowledgng you makes your day. have you told billy that?Ezzard wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 16:09 I am so naïve that when I joined the forum I honestly thought that anyone remotely involved in the sport would be treated with respect because they were a little closer to the source than everyone else.

If you are in the limelight you must be willing to be shot down along with taking the plaudits, remember he does get paid for the work he does.
As with many posters I have had a love hate relationship with him, while his boorish attitude can be a part of his charm it can also grate. I really don't like his 'I've got some inside info' taps nose and then keep stum!
On the whole his time at setanta was quite legendary, doing a one man show which was pretty unscripted is pretty much impossible to do and he did a great job.
This has been carried on in allegedly too.
His behaviour over this thread has been laughable and he has made an absolute joke of himself.

This is what I don't get... Billy Nelson has been in the corner for many championship fights. What an amazing experience that must have been. Why wouldn't a fan look up to him?jamamb wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 17:12ppl shouldnt be dsrespectful just to piss them off but at the same tme they shouldnt be put on a pedestal. ppl in the game can be pudenda and chat nonsense too and if they give it or say somethng stupd they should be prepared to get it back. thats cute that nelson merely acknowledgng you makes your day. have you told billy that?Ezzard wrote: ↑03 Nov 2017, 16:09 I am so naïve that when I joined the forum I honestly thought that anyone remotely involved in the sport would be treated with respect because they were a little closer to the source than everyone else.

I don't have a problem with disagreeing with someone. But stop and think about it for a second...what kind of boxing forum runs professional boxers, coaches and commentators off the boards?
Steve Bunce is a big part of the game in this country. He's met many, many top fighters. Nobody ever seemed interested in discussing any of that. Just in having a go at him.

We didn't run anyone off here. Boomer used to ASSURE us the top ten p4p lists would be all Scouse in years to come, plus Frankie Gavin. Price, Swifty and Selkirk literally couldn't miss. Arnie was the best thing since sliced bread and Fwank would rightfully reclaim his position as the number one promoter in the WORLD, he really would.
Smigga? What can I say about him that hasn't been said before? He once started on me for claiming Groves hit harder than him...
The forum is poorer without these guys, they were comedy, Scouse, gold. I suppose old Boomer has had the last laugh, though. I'd love him to come back when he's retired to rub our noses in it.

Re: Boycott Bunces Book
The forum is poorer for losing Bellow and Smith, they certainly fought their corner when criticised but they did very much engage with the posters.
Bunce tends to make statements, usually tapping his nose! But rarely engaged.

I don't know if we can say Smigga engaged with us. He tolerated us, sometimes.

It's not like Paul Smith was chased away, he posted here till just before the Degale fight, then never came back.

Re: Boycott Bunces Book
I know Bunce very well and like myself at times he wrongly rubbed people up the wrong way on here. I did it to amuse myself, but I was WRONG to do that.
Bunce is a fantastic boxing fan and his knowledge is superb. My opinion is, I would not go out of my way to boycott his book.
But for any boxing personality who comes on here they need to do so without their rose tinted spectacles. More importantly people need to be less sensitive when reading opinions and accept that criticisms are part of this place.
In the coming weeks I will be letting as many boxing personalities I know that boxrec is the place to be again.
My next thread is ... spud should be a moderator
