Thing is Fury can spend years laying into women and gay guys and it's all 'he's just speaking his mind/being himself/good old Tyson/refreshing to see some honesty/winds up the PC brigade.'
If Joshua turned round and said 'don't like pikeys, genuinely good for nothing except filling prisons and breaking the law, society would be better off if they were all shot' is that the same?
Ha yeah pretty much. I know I come over as super over sensitive about this and a couple years back I was very much like "Feck me, say what you want, people like to be offended sometimes, sit and wait for something to jump on" but then, sitting through weekly sessions with doctors, shrinks and living with a daughter in the grip of an extreme mental illness, a daughter who was a typical teen - funny, smart, pretty, sarcastic, studious etc to then become a literal shell of the former girl, it gets you really really thinking about stuff and now, I can see how people saying the stuff Fury does is not acceptable as it sets an example of behaviour which will be allowed. If we reward a guy who talks so offensively (like letting him into SPOTY), we then cannot rein in kids doing the same stuff.
I used to just say that he can speak all the crap he wants, he is only harming his own career and sponsorship viability, but now, from experience, research, books, documentaries, sessions with doctors, mental illness forums etc which has been my unpleasant life for nearly two years as I struggle to get a handle on how my daughters life disintegrated, I can see how harmful and dangerous it is to just say, "Let Tyson say what he wants" - although it is a free country so sure, let him say what he wants but by god, do not applaud him for it or ever send out a message that society finds it acceptable
