You sure? I thought he defended both against Berto? Maybe Pacquiao as well?
Yeah, I'm sure.
Was the Maidana rematch I think. I'll check online just now but I'm sure he defended both titles at welter and light middle
Sorry bud, he didn't.

Just checked on here and it has him down as defending the WBA and WBC Welter titles and also the WBC lightmiddle title as well :maybe:

While I was reading your OP Taansend, I was fully expecting you to have found the link to Kevin Bacon!
Boxing is one of the most baffling sports there is. It's rare to confidently say who is the best in any weight.
And how dare you call New Zealand obscure! It's only geographically challenged yanks wot have not heard how awesome we are. And that's only because we is modest

No but he managed to fight for a vacant world title straight after a knockout loss.
Who held the WBO title before Hearns then ?
Dunno but from your question I thought you meant was the WBO itself made up for Hearns benefit :D
It was. I read an interview with manny in the internet’s infancy back in the 90s where he said he essentially bankrolled it and three or four of his fighters fought for their inaugural titles.

Immediately comes to mind is Howard Clarke vs Fernando Vargas - yes Clarke beat someone ranked in the top 10, but earn a top 10 ranking but his record wasn't great. But I was pleased cos I won a long running bet with a friend when I saw Clarke draw (although he well won) with Michael Smyth and I said "he's good enough to hang in world class if he would get the breaks" - fighting for the world title was enough for my mate to cough up the tenner.

Didn't fight for a title, but not long ago Joey Vegas had a very lofty world rating with the WBC. again he did win some spurious belt, but his record wasn't of someone in the top 50.

Sheffield’s John “Buster” Keaton fought Don Diego Poeder for the vacant Dutch cruiserweight title back in 2005. He didn’t win.

If you're a heavyweight boxer from Vegas then fighting small cards New Zealand is obscure.

I remember posting a while back about Izuagbe Ugonoh,

Izuagbe Ugonoh (American, born in Poland, presumably of Nigerian ancestry), just won the vacant Mediterranean title in New Zealand
The same guy simultaneously held the WBA interim Oceania title and WBO interim Africa title

Which fight? My bad Stu, I've never heard that or seen it in writing. At least he held both titles, Leonard getting a belt for spite still stands alone.

It doesn't get much odder than Battling Siki defending his world light-heavyweight title against Mike McTigue in Dublin on St Patrick's Day in 1923, particularly as Ireland was in the grip of Civil War. Unsurprisingly, Siki lost a decision.

I was looking at the fight this Monday between Sergey Kuzmin & Amir Mansour, in Russia, and noticed that Kuzmin had beaten Darnell "Ding-a-Ling" Wilson, who was a fun fighter to watch a few years ago.
It was a technical draw after 3 rounds. Anyone know what happened?

There was a head clash, opened up a deep cut on Kuzmin's forehead and one on Mansour's right eyelid, no way for either to continue. Rather anti-climactic...

He does. I was half-watching the fight but missed the actual clash so don't know whether one was more at fault than the other. Mansour had jumped in a couple of times previously trying to get in range, both cuts looked very nasty Kuzmin basically had a hole in his forehead...
