Pacific Northwest HOF - WA/OR/ID/BC

Post by kidlefty »

One regional boxing hall of fame that I don't think exists (please correct me if I'm wrong) would be for the Pacific Northwest.

Defining the Pacific Northwest as Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia, who would you nominate for such a HOF?

Eligible fighters: born and/or raised in the region, and/or fought out of the region at some point in their career.

Who 'ya got?

Always good to hear from the Hall of Fame guru!

Here a few:
Rocky Lockridge
Tiger Jack Fox
Denny Moyer
Maybe Leo Randolph and Johnny Bumphus

I didn't know if Eddie Machen would count. He had a few fights in Portland and won the Pacific Northwest Heavyweight title.

If you're gonna go beyond boxers and nominate manager Jack Hurley and promoter Brian Halquist--both nice suggestions-- then I'll nominate:

*Frank Churchill
*George Shanklin
*Joe Waterman
*Lonnie Austin
*Dan Salt
*Biddy Bishop
*Nate Druxman

I'm sure fellow PNW boxing fan and BoxRec Editor Matt Tegen may have other suggestions for candidates into a Pacific NW Boxing Hall of Fame. Do you, Matt?

This original HOF was established by promoter Moe Smith in Worley, ID and reported in various publications.

The first class for the newly established Hall of Fame includes former world lightweight champion Greg Haugen of Auburn, Tacoma gold medalists Sugar Ray Seales and Leo Randolph, and Washington heavyweights Boone Kirkman, Pat McMurtry, Pete Rademacher and Joe Hipp.

Other boxers to be inducted: Larry Buck, Mickey Hewett, Marvin Camel, John Lee Sullivan, Ray Lampkin, Dick Wagner, George Logan, Andy Kendall and Harlan Breshears.

The rest of the 23-member Hall of Fame inductees: George Chemeres, Seattle trainer and promoter; Jimmy Rondeau, judge, referee, member of Washington's boxing commission and the International Boxing Federation; Mike Morton, promoter and manager; Jim Riley, referee; Benny Georgino, Lucky Eagle Casino promoter; Jerry Armstrong, referee; Bob Olson, promoter and manager.

The prestigious Baseball Hall of Fame has inducted 322 members in eighty two years for an average of less than four per year and includes players, coaches, executives and umpires.. . . . .I would suggest that if the PNW Boxing Hall of Fame gets legs that nominees include the elites of the sport involving boxers, promoters, managers and officials.. . . . .those who contributed to the highest levels of boxing in the region.
