Anthony Joshua; drug dealer and bully of Eddie Chambers.
Re: Most "bad people" boxing has seen?
Ali did more good than bad... He had some dumb ideas about race and Uncle Toms, and he treated some people badly... That was more of a marketing thing, but he seemed to relish belittling his opponents.DrDuke wrote: ↑27 Dec 2017, 09:01 Ali had also done some despicable stuff. For example, to Frazier. Joe gave him money, while Ali had no license. But before their first encounter Ali started all pre-fight trash talk, which transformed to real rivalry, it turned out to be a betrayal. Joe and his family had some troubles and life threats because of Ali and his supporters
The bigger issue is the social good he did by taking a stand against the Viet Nam War even though it hurt his popularity because most people didn't have the long term vision Ali did about international matters... On social issues and international relations Ali was very good... When he started taking about race and religion I was embarrassed for him.. He was indoctrinated by the Black Muslims... I always liked Malcolm X... I knew he was very bright and would find the truth one day... It cost him his life when he did... Ali also found the truth... He knew that racial identity didn't define people after he was 40 or so.

There was a right hoo-ha over the film being incredibly inaccurate wasn’t there. The film portrayed him as a really nice fella. A victim of the system. Some horrible characters described in this topic.
More recently, Billy Joe Saunders had a fight cancelled against Avtandil 'mini Mike Tyson' Khurtsidze who had beaten Tommy Langford inside 5 rounds.
The guy is currently sitting in prison for racketeering, robbery and murder for hire charges!

Unfortunate, I suppose, but it's hard to shed tears over Greb.
Historically, he's always been viewed as one of the dirtiest fighters to ever lace up gloves.
If Greb never blinded an opponent, it wasn't for lack of trying.

I didn't do that. Someone else did that. I merely commented that it is not the well known version of the song.
Its a decent song. When I listen to it I don't care if he was guilty or innocent. I'm listening to a song period. You all are so PC.

The use of harmonica is outstanding.
More than 40 years after it was released I still play it on bar jukeboxes.
But Dylan made Carter out to be some genteel gift to society instead of the thug he really was:
"Ruben could take a man out with just one punch, but he never really liked to talk about it all that much
'It's my work,' he'd say, 'And I do it for pay. And when it's all over I'd just as soon go in my way.'
"Up to some paradise, where the trout streams flow and the air is nice. And ride a horse along a trail, until they took him to the jailhouse where they tried to turn a man into a mouse "
Somehow I can't picture bad ass, ghetto dwelling Ruben Carter going horseback riding in some Shangri-La setting.
Dylan made Carter, who spent much of his pre-boxing youth in various detention centers, sound like Jesus Christ incarnate.

Re: Most "bad people" boxing has seen?
I'm waiting for Dylan to write an ode to Pipino Cuevas, since he has such an affinity for boxing.
He 's released songs dedicted to Carter and the original (and tragic) Davey Moore and also a diddy where he referenced fighting Cassius Clay.
Dylan doesn't seem like the boxing type but he supposedly dabbles in it and has his own personal boxing gym.

He seems like a boxing fan to me, maybe because I'm a fan of both. Dylan does a good version of Warren Zevon's Boom Boom Mancini. "Hurry on early, hurry on home, Boom Boom Mancini is fighting Bobby Chacon."SenorPipino wrote: ↑02 Jan 2018, 15:48 I'm waiting for Dylan to write an ode to Pipino Cuevas, since he has such an affinity for boxing.

Supposedly Ray Mancini is making a living training famous people and Dylan is one of them.

I believe Roberto Duran did the same thing. I don't think the "Hollywood crowd" has given Carter one thought in two decades.
