Amir Khan ducked fighting for it.unforgivable.

Just one thats fresh in my mind with Matty Askin defending against him soon is Stephen Simmons.

Amazing that hes never fought for the British title considering how long hes been around at domestic/European level.Im not suggesting Simmons has avoided it either he will fight anyone.

Being British champion means something, being the IBF International champion means nothing. I'm sure it means something to the fighter but in the wider context of boxing it means nothing.
I agree - I wonder if any of the boxers named look back when they have retired and wish they had boxed for the British title rather than strategically going for some inter-continental type title?

IMO International Titles are are easier to win and end up with a world rating.

I agree with you - e.g. these new WBO Euro titles can be easier to win than a British and guarantee a world ranking.

For boxers going down this route does make sense, however at the end of their careers do you think they regret not going for the British title instead?

Gosh I didn't know that, I suppose I just assumed he had it at one time.
Can you remember who he would have fought at the time please?

That's where some boxers are goin wrong. They're getting world title shots too early in their careers and then losing. I guess, because it's harder to win the British title, boxers want to protect their '0'..

Its not only that - when they lose, they then see themselves as above domestic level and don't want to fight for the British title, a bit like Swifty Smith for example - but where does he go now ?

I think it should be mandated that you can't fight for a world title unless you are a national champion first. How can you claim to be a world champ if you are not even champ in your own country? All this bullshit of 'international' and 'diamond' and 'intercontinental' titles just confuses the casual observer and demeans the national associations.

I have much more respect for people like Billy Joe Saunders who took the traditional route and although he may not be everyones cup of tea and he may not be the universally recognised number one middleweight, if he retired tomorrow he can legitimately say he won British, Commonwealth, European and World title belts during his career.

So in comparison American boxers should be winning the NABF (used to be highly regarded) and the USBA titles.. tbh most do already.. they win the NABO type belts. Even though they are affiliated with the 4 orgs.. it still gets them a ranking.

The thing with just winning the British belt, i'm not sure it just gets you a ranking with the orgs.

Yeh. I also rate BJS.. correct me of i'm wrong, he probably the last to hold all 3, and even then actually make a decent defence ( vs. Eubank Jr.)

This is what they do in Japan. You must have held the Japanese title before you are allowed to go and fight for a world title
