Yeah both guys showed a great chin mate. I still think Usyk boxes very amateurish though! Doesn't get as much as what he could in to his shots!Tomasino wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:27He had a daft grin between rounds like he was loving it. Breidis looked like he was on the operating table between rounds after the 7th. Two seriously good 200lb fighters. Tough as boots man they took a lot of shots, Usyk shipped some crackers that would have knocked out most.

Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
That’s why he’s got energy to keep the pressure up till the end, he pats away then sticks the odd stiff one in. He rides punches well in the jerky way and seems to fight through fatigue really well.Stuarty30 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:32Yeah both guys showed a great chin mate. I said to my pal who had money on Breidis that if it came to being tired, Usyk is still pretty much the same, patty awkward jerky style and he keeps the pressure on. He sneaks about five or six hard punches in a round but usually lands them quite clean. Breidis can come again. He lost his form and explosiveness after 7, I think it will come out his face is broke in some way
Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
Agree mate. If Usyk has any dreams of moving to heavy he'll have to completely change how he fights man! He needs to move more and he has to make opponents respect his power early. He's a big lad so I'm sure he could whack if he does it right but he needs work there!Tomasino wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:35That’s why he’s got energy at the end, he pats away then skits the odd stiff one in. Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
I don’t see him being the man at heavy mate. It’s not even size just lack of devasting power. He’s more a sneaky shot guy. He will beat most of them though, I’d pick him Over wilder but not Joshua.Stuarty30 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:38Agree mate. Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
I've not seen the fight yet, but what about Briedis at Heavy - do you think he has a future there. Seems like his stock has risen in defeat after a drab showing vs Perez.... He's fought quite a bit of a career at Heavyweight - including a devasting KO vs a heavyweight champion, albeit the thinest of paper champs.

Aye me too mate, can't believe I was that out of sync, I've been drinking but I was paying attention so can't fathom how I had Briedis losing that bad,Stuarty30 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:13Surprised to read that from you mate. I usually agree with you on most things boxing. I thought Usyk won but I had it tight. I thought Breidis did himself a service tonight. He showed some things I didn't think he had in his locker! He gave Usyk a lot to think about tonight man.handsofstone wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 20:56 Ive just watched this fight in foreign , I don't have a clue how other people have seen it, I find the SD incredible, I thought Usyk won pretty much every minute, I had it 119-110, I gave Briedis the 6th because I thought he should've been credited with a KD, he caught Usyk with a lovely right hand which I thought put him down, I gave Briedis a share of the last round
Briedis had a couple of little bursts now and then but Usyk always kept him in his place comfortably with his jab and quick combinations, anytime Briedis had a rare success, Usyk used all his experience and snuffed him out
Easy win for Usyk and a career best performance, he made Briedis look poo
I have a sneaky feeling I might be a casual, I disguise it by watching old fights
Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
It's an objective sport man. I thought most rounds were close. I was really impressed with Breidis. I thought he boxed really well at times. Early on he boxed off the back foot and done really well. I am a big Usyk fan and at half way I was worried for him even though it was close. Next weeks fight should be a feckin war man! I'm buzzing for it already!handsofstone wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 22:32Aye me too mate, can't believe I was that out of sync, I've been drinking but I was paying attention so can't fathom how I had Briedis losing that bad,Stuarty30 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:13Surprised to read that from you mate. Could see Usyk v Wilder being a template of Wilder v Szplika lol. Usyk darting in and out and nicking rounds but getting poleaxed at some point lol.....Tomasino wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:47I don’t see him being the man at heavy mate. Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
I had Usyk 116-112. and was scoring close rounds to Briedis - as I thought the judges would.handsofstone wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 21:13 Just having a look through this thread. cant believe how wrong I am, I thought it was a mediocre fight where Usyk snuffed out Briedis pretty comfortably, I watched it in mute , I cant think of a clear round for Briedis, I gave him the 6th because he deserved a KD and I gave him a share of the 12th
Judging by this thread it must be me whos tripping but surely I cant be the only person who thought Usyk bossed that tonight with minimum fuss?
IP betting had Usyk 1/10 going in to the last.
Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
Could maye see it but Usyk far better than Spilika. I think Wilder is terrible tho mate, like pure shite.Stuarty30 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2018, 22:54Could see Usyk v Wilder being a template of Wilder v Szplika lol. ITV don't care about boxing. They just proved it. They might not be from the UK, but this was, on paper a very good fight for the cruiserweight division and it's part of a big tournament.
Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
i thought usyk won clear too hos. really i think you could give him 9 rounds and imo no way that was a draw or for briedis. he got tired too quick, lost his oomph, and just didnt have enough in the second half and no way he won enough in the first half to make up for the fade.
i watched on a germqn language stream i couldnt understand and came to this section after watching and was surprised that ppl were saying stuff like draw and could go either way. those cards werent unexpected for me because of being in latvia but i thougt in reality it was a competetive but clear outcome

Usyk has got this thing were he will take the first 2 or 3 rounds easy.. Tends to always lose first few rounds. Did on my card. But then he steps it up. He probably does it to feel his opponents. Clever boxer though, very calculated. His jab was his best offense IMO.

Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
I'd say, Usyk is remarkable, but still needs to work on the defence, because even in later rounds, which he had won, he kinda made some miscalculations, he was on the positions, where he had been an easy target for Briedis.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 05:09 Usyk has got this thing were he will take the first 2 or 3 rounds easy.. Re: Round-By-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Mairis Briedis
Its not the 1st time ive been "wrong" in my scoring but jeez I'm way off in this one it seems, I just didn't like Briedis at all and thought Usyk kept him at bay comfortably , any slight success Briedis had I thought Usyk was always careful to reassert himself on the fight as if to show the judges he was in total control
Maybe with UK commentary i'd have had it closer and seen the stuff from Briedis that everyone else appreciated
Safe to say I wont be criticising judges for a wee while![[icon_wink.gif] ;-)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

This is a good example of 'a perfect jab can win you the fight'..
I think where some saw Briedis as a close winner or giving him rounds was because he DID land the harder shots.

I was going to buy the Groves-Eubank fight, but I don’t trust them now so will stream it. Absolute fvcking amateurs.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 04:42ITV don't care about boxing. I'm sure pubs will be showing this fight. It's a huge fight domestically. I would rather watch it at home to be honest.Stuarty wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 08:28Same mate. I'd rather watch it at home as well mate. Few of my mates have sky so I'm hoping one of them stick it on and I'll jump round there. I'm not paying for it after that shambles last night. I ended up having to watch it on Kodi!Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Jan 2018, 08:31I'm sure pubs will be showing this fight. It's a huge fight domestically. Yeh, I saw your posts. What are they trying to do? Promote Box Office? Should have just stuck it on ITV 2, 3 or 4.. How hard would that have been?
