To use Ortiz's name to sell tickets before switching at the last minute to fight Oscar Rivas.
Fans can always get a refund if the original fight doesn't go off as advertised.

Oscar Rivas. Another guy whose been around for years, has some promise, but has accomplished nada.

Surely you jest.
Not at all. Oscar Rivas's career has stalled because of eye problems. He moved to Canada where it's presumably easier to get a license. Even so he doesn't seem to be doing much in the way of fighting.

My respect for his ability dates from his amateur days but I guess being a top amateur isn't a guarantee of being a force in the paid game with or without dodgy peepers, so my comment was just idle speculation. He beat Kubrat Pulev as an amateur. It proves nothing admittedly, but a win over Pulev as a pro would be a greater achievement than any by a Wilder victim or indeed the man himself.

Pulev vs. Rivas 2008 Olympics. Listen to the announcers commentary. Pulev won but they gave it to Rivas. Rivas should have been dq'd, or at least warned, for holding. Also the scoring for round one, that Rivas did win, was way out of line. Olympic judging is almost as bad as in the pro's.

Glazkov beat Rivas in 2007. What has become of Glazkov? He was supposed to come back but it has been two years now since he hurt his knee.

Well whether or not he should have got the decision, it doesn't really affect what I said. It suggests he was roughly equal to Pulev as an amateur, and if he was still on a par with Pulev (at something like his peak) as a professional, then he'd be top ten no question. Of course that's a pretty big 'if'.

Yes I'd like to see Glazkov back in the mix. Maybe he saw how Martin performed against Joshua, and how much he got paid for his trouble, and went into a chronic depression. That payday should have been mine :D

The last i saw on Glazkov was one year ago when he said he'd return last summer, but he didn't.

asdfjkl wrote: 12 Feb 2018, 03:28 As we all know Wilder usually got an excuse to fight a massive bum, weather it's the WBC that forces him to fight a bum, or Wilder needs a tune up because he's injured, or all the good guys are scheduled, or his opponent mysteriously has been caught by the Los Angeles lab, or twice even.
So what do you guys expect will happen this time? Will he end up in the ring with Ortiz, or will he fight a bum anyway?

If he fights a bum anyway, his choices are limited:
Dillian Whyte (Jamaica/GB) SILVER
2 .- Dominic Breazeale (US)
3 .- Luis Ortiz (Cuba)
4 .- Kubrat Pulev (Bulgaria)
5 .- Tony Bellew (GB)
6 .- Johann Duhaupas (France)
7 .- Charles Martin (US)
8 .- Agit Kabayel (Germany) EBU
9 .- Oscar Rivas (Colombia/Canada) NABF
10 .- Carlos Takam (Cameroon)
11 .- Lucas Browne (Australia)
12 .- Adam Kownacki (US)
13 .- Dereck Chisora (GB)
14 .- Bermane Stiverne (Haiti/Canada)
15 .- Hughie Fury (GB) * CBP/P
Pulev is probably still too strong, Bellew doesn't want to, Kabayel is nothing special, but probably still too strong anyway. Duhaupas has been fought before and so is Stiverne, Browne would be too good, just like Hughie Fury, Charles Martin seems like the only option left. And since Charles Martin got shot (even litteraly) he aint any good no more.
What do you guys think? Or will he simply not fight at all? I'm curious about your opinions.
The only bum here is you. You should be banned for using that word about professional boxers. Pathetic.

I somewhat agree with keithmoonhangover, but not fully. I don't think it is needed to ban someone for calling a top 50 fighter a bum. It is a very sad indictment on a person's intelligence and boxing knowledge if they are that severely incapable of correctly identifying a bum; because a #35 gatekeeper and a #700 bum are WAY off. I do think that boxing fans in forums owe boxers more respect than they are given.

However, on a related note, if it were my call, I would probably give a ban or a long suspension to anyone who referred to boxers as cowards. If you have the gall to refer to a professional boxer as a coward, get f*cked and die. They are the furthest thing from cowards.

I love boxing. I respect boxers, even the ones with 3-37 records. When people call a boxer a coward or a bum, how can they claim to respect boxers.

It's like calling a woman a slut if she's slept with three fellas and then claiming to respect women.

bum has no nastiness to me, it simply highlights a very limited boxer, usually in the context of them being put way over there head. i still respect them.

Bum is and always been a derogatory term for a boxer, which goes back 70+ years. If you respect boxers (of any level) you don't call them a bum.

I don't think boxing is smart enough to provide a sub. At least not in The States. Ortiz or no fight.

The price of tickets was reduced by half when Ortiz was replaced the first time by Stiverne. The promotion took a big hit. Why would they intentionally do that again?

I don't think they would. I was just talking as a back up. The ramblings of the madman (OP) may be different. :TU:

There sure was a lot of name calling, all of it derogatory, when accomplished amateur/professional Guillermo Rigondeaux quit on his stool a few month back.

Is that acceptable? Where are lines drawn?
