I have a mate who was going to write his autobiog. He invited Higgins over to stay in his holiday cottage in Whitby, on the North East coast. He was ran out of town for swindling pool players! he would play a crap game for a fiver and let someone beat him. Then some bloke would bet him £20 and higgins would clear all the balls. He wrecked my mates cottage. The biog didnt get written!Stuarty wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 05:34Met him years ago in Belfast. Apparently he'd sit in the boozer and charge folk for pictures and autographsMimmy wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 05:25 Alex Higgins the snooker player of many years ago was forever saying stuff to the media and was always getting fined for bringing the game into disrepute. He would say he wanted Dennis Taylor dead and was banned and fined for saying such to reporters.
So this kid saying stuff on Twitter is the same sort of thing and should be banned or fined for bringing his sport into disrepute.
In my opinion he should be fined by his organisation, not sure what the fine should be, but if you are a member of an organisation you should respect their rules and regulations and should conduct yourself appropriately.
If I started slagging my hospital off and saying managers were wankers etc etc I would be brought in and disciplined and possibly given a written warning or possibly suspended and fired. I couldnt say it was freedom of speech and get away with it.There's a cracking big mural of him where he sat in the pub and one outside as well.

He looked like death warmed up when I met him. Think he just sat in that pub all day, every day and drank!
Re: Sheffield boxer Tyan Booth has licence suspended for sick tweets following death of Scott Westgarth
I'd be more worried about his mental well being than anything, his Twitter account is the ramblings of a retard.
Re: Sheffield boxer Tyan Booth has licence suspended for sick tweets following death of Scott Westgarth
I have a picture of myself next to that mural, nobody had a good word to say about him, even cab drivers took money off him upfront as he had a reputation for doing runners or just saying he didn't have any money.Mimmy wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 05:38I have a mate who was going to write his autobiog. Obviously there are limits to freedom of speech. It's why we have defamation laws. Freedom to walk around without people ordering my death is more important. We've never had complete freedom of speech, most free countries don'tHorse wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 14:06Based on this I assume that you don't agree with freedom of speech.danconnollyeire wrote: ↑27 Feb 2018, 11:45Bollocks, that's not free speech. This. People misunderstand what freedom of speech is. It isn't the freedom to say anything. If I call for Tyan Booth to have his throat cut i will expect a bang on the door from the police to charge me with numerous offences.danconnollyeire wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 08:05Obviously there are limits to freedom of speech. Yep, I wonder how many people trumpeting the "freedom of speech" line also say the same when they read about a Muslim cleric standing in the road inciting hatred.danconnollyeire wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 08:05Obviously there are limits to freedom of speech. Absolutely, especially if you're an influential person. If this wasn't the case, Abu Hamza would still walk this streets and Neo-Nazi's could call for people's deaths. Exactly. On this issue itself, it takes real mental gymnastics to NOT see how this is bringing the sport into disrepute. If you do that in any sport, you get banned. It is so obvious, and I do worry that those saying it are more those into WWE pantomime.danconnollyeire wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 08:28Absolutely, especially if you're an influential person. I'm more interested in why, at a time Alex Higgins was well known enough to write his own book, the pool sharks of Whitby didn't recognise him.
Re: Sheffield boxer Tyan Booth has licence suspended for sick tweets following death of Scott Westgarth
Bottom line is you do not have freedom of speech.
You cant go around saying racist comments claiming freedom of speech there are laws to protect that. And you will get prosecuted
You can’t call your boss a c*#t (even though he might be) there are certain policies that protects that. Harassment and bullying. You get sacked.
And this boxer is doin a job and there is certain code he should follow. What he done was insensitive and disrespectful to the people involved. If I made light of a work mates family member dying I would be sacked. So I think he should lose his license for a period of time.

Higgins book did get written by another writer. My friend started to do research, interviewing his sister and other people. Higgins wanted the book to be written in a different way, thus it wouldnt have been a biography, he hated almost everyone in snooker. If you are going to write a biog it has to be truthful and give a correct account of what really happened, not what you think happened. Some writers would go along with that to make the money, but my friend didnt.Coco wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 09:00Higgins towards the end, especially with his cancer looked a different fella.mickey1975 wrote: ↑28 Feb 2018, 08:45 I'm more interested in why, at a time Alex Higgins was well known enough to write his own book, the pool sharks of Whitby didn't recognise him.

When he spent time at my friends cottage I dont think he was going through the cancer, not sure. But he was a well known figure around the town apparently.
