Whyte / Browne winner
Miller ( assuming he beats Duhaupas)
Breazeale
Pulev
Personally I'd like to see Wilder vs Povetkin or Pulev.

That's the trouble. I fear Povetkin is now just a scalp and I think Eddie has his eye on him as a next opponent (assuming AJ gets past Parker) - why?apollo creed wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 05:35Povetkin is old but his resume is top notch. He'd be a good scalp for Mr Windmiller.

Good points. Nowadays Povetkin is just a good name to have on your resume. He is old and faded.candyslim wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 06:34That's the trouble. 1. Povetkin is a great name to have in the win column of your resumé.
2. He's not looking very much of a threat these days.
3. Would get one monkey (WBA) of his back for a while, maybe two (WBO).
If Wilder gets to him first and beats him I can just hear some of the posters on here ... "Isn't it funny how Povetkin was the bogeyman. Deontay was lucky he didn't get to fight him in Moscow that time, now the fight's happening / Now Wilder's Knocked him TF out, now those same jokers are playing down Povetkin and saying he's old"
Well guess what guys - every fighter has a shelf-life so I'm saying it now before any match involving him gets made, and that is: "Povetkin has been an elite level heavyweight for many years but beating him now won't mean anything like what it would have done just a couple of years back - but it will look great on any fighter's record".
Cannot happen, the lawsuit is not resolved yet...Wilder will receive his 4.5 million dollars anyhow, so why bother fighting?apollo creed wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 07:26Good points. Yes he probably will but I don't see that as being an insurmountable obstacle, it may not even be regarded as connected (i.e. two totally separate and distinct issues contested by the same individuals)bigman1968 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 08:22Cannot happen, the lawsuit is not resolved yet...Wilder will receive his 4.5 million dollars anyhow, so why bother fighting?apollo creed wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 07:26Good points. That last paragraph depressed me. Probably because you're correct...punchoutsb wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 18:41 Considering the massive dearth of talent in this current incarnation of the division, there's actually very few attractive options for Wilder following his first good win. It's no longer his fault though.
Povetkin or Pulev would probably be the best options. Pulev is a far superior boxer, but can his chin last twelve rounds? I highly doubt it but if he's able to not get knocked out it would be a hard fight for Wilder stylistically. Povetkin is likely still in the top four or five best active heavyweights so that also works.
Aside from those two, the ranked contenders are really abysmally terrible. Now that he's finally stepped out of his comfort zone I will no longer blame Wilder for his poor resume; the lack of talent has never been more clear, so fighting someone like Miller/Duhaupus, , Browne/Whyte, Breazeale, Takam, Oquendo/Char, etc etc etc will be fine no matter how depressing it is for the fans.
LOL, I'm not sure we'll be seeing Wilder against another southpaw for a while. I've never seen Zhilei, can he really fight? or is he hype?
