Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
If Parker is somehow remotely competitive in this bout, then that will say more about Joshua's deficiencies than it says about Parker's talent.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Povetkin is an aging drug cheat who went the distance with Christian Hammer who has been knocked out 3 times. Could you imagine Wilder going the distance with Hammer?Mexi-Box wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 11:22Povetkin is still tier one with Joshua. He's Joshua's biggest threat. The rest are all tier two. Takam: I thought Parker won a close fight. You could make a case for Takam winning and he wasn't troubled by Parkers' power.
Ruiz: i thought Parker won a close fight. You could make a case for Ruiz winning and he wasn't troubled by Parkers' power.
Razvan Cojanu: Unlike Takam and Ruiz, Cojanu is a rather limited opponent. He didn't remotely threaten to win but he wasn't troubled by Parkers' power either.
Fury: Did rather kill the fight but if you take the literal view about boxing being the art of hitting without being hit, and about the number of punches landed, then there was only one winner and it wasn't Parker.
Now this is heavyweight boxing, anything can happen. Joshua still has a few unresolved questions, notably regarding his chin and his stamina, but realistically he is 20 and 0 with 100% Knockout ratio for a reason, If Parker doesn't have the power to bother those guys, I can't really see him as the man to expose AJ's deficiencies and relieve him of his titles.
tier one
Joshua
tier two
Wilder
tier three
Parker
Ruiz
Hughie
Povetkin
Pulev
Takam
Miller
Ortiz

Uh, Wilder got put on queer street by Molina who was starched in 1 by Arreola and 3 by Joshua. Nice try, though.Tony1244 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 11:29Povetkin is an aging drug cheat who went the distance with Christian Hammer who has been knocked out 3 times. Wilder can lose rounds and get rocked. Not denying that. Bottom line is Wilder has KOd everyone he's fought. Povetkin is pushing 40 and getting older and slower by the day.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 11:35Uh, Wilder got put on queer street by Molina who was starched in 1 by Arreola and 3 by Joshua. I'm not saying it's impossible for an Eastern European hope to beat Joshua or Wilder. I'd forget about the aging Povetkin and Pulev though and look further.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Sorry Pip but that's crap ... As was Jean-Pierre Coopman

Parker :
Skillset - 8/10
Punch power - 8/10
Stamina - 8/10
Heart - 10/10
Chin - 10/10 (?)
If his chin is really 10/10, he will have about 10% chance to beat Joshua. This is my opinion.

Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Dunn was a little better than Coopman. He had a bit of power and the southpaw thing going for him. Parker beats both of them in his sleep though.

Might not have to look further than Hrgovic.Tony1244 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 11:39Wilder can lose rounds and get rocked. Not denying that. Bottom line is Wilder has KOd everyone he's fought. Povetkin is pushing 40 and getting older and slower by the day.

I don't consider Povetkin a drug cheat, that Meldonium trace was a pitiful excuse to deny the risk of Russian influence and political power in heavyweight boxing, at least that's how it seems to me.
Neither do I regard him as tier one, not anymore. His ability was sufficient to overcome his physical limitations, and he may once have a handful for Wilder or Joshua, but at 38 I believe that time has past.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Great points...also watch out for Tom Shwarz from Germany...a couple or three years away but a comer...so far.candyslim wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 12:59Might not have to look further than Hrgovic.Tony1244 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 11:39Wilder can lose rounds and get rocked. Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
I'd like to see Tom Schwarz fight Michael Wallisch for his German title. They would each be the best opponent the other has faced to date. Wallisch is 31 now and doesn't appear to have ambitions beyond national level (He could at least challenge Agit Kabayel for his compatriot's EBU title)
I'm hoping that Tom Schwarz has got more about him. He's only 23 IIRC so he has time on his side.

Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Too many of you guys dissing 70s European heavyweights.
Both Dunn and the renowned Lion of Flanders, JP Coopman, were outstanding European champions.
Highly regarded.
If they looked like bums to you, then it was because they were fighting the GOAT.
Parker wouldn't look any better if he had found himself in the ring with Ali.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
I'm not lauding Parker, just remembering Dunn and Coopman...I remember what Dunn said before the Ali fight..."ALl a boxer needs is a big heart and a flat nose." I knew he had a great sense of humor as the camera focused in on his squashed proboscis.SenorPipino wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 13:30Too many of you guys dissing 70s European heavyweights.

Coopman was severely limited to put it politely. Dunn had no chin. Actually he had a huge chin but you know what i mean. Zanon and Righetti had some boxing skills. The best of the lot by far was Joe Bugner.
I'm not trying to get in a pissing war. Today's American HWs aren't contenders after Deontay and Big Baby. Just sayn'.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Ok Pip first point when I said he was crap that was said more for effect, he wasn't crap there again he wasn't regarded as a 'lion' either anywhere outside Flanders. The seventies were when I first became a boxing fan and a heavyweight fan in particular. As a Brit I used to study heavyweights worldwide but especially UK and less so Europe. There was no box-rec so I used to produce my own lists of results and even ratings based on the ELO Chess ratings system.SenorPipino wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 13:30Too many of you guys dissing 70s European heavyweights.

I was excited by quite a few British and European fighters for example Anders Eklund, Steffan Tangstad, Francesco Damiani, and a few Brits besides, but I can faithfully promise you that Coopman and Dunn were not among them although I was well aware of both long before they provided target practice for Ali. Dunn had a reputation for being rugged and willing to fight despite being a bit chinny.
Coopman beat some decent fighters like Jose Urtain and Neville Mead so crap is definitely unfair. There again he lost many fights and got knocked out in two by a guy called Werleman who had a losing record.
Trust me there is no way on God's green earth that J-P Coopman was of comparable quality to Joe Parker.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
for me the tiers are
tier 1: aj and wilder
tier 2: povetkin and ortiz
tier 3: miller, pulev, whyte, parker, takam, breazeale, etc

tier 2: povetkin and ortiz

Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
Wilder barely got past Ortiz. Got outboxed and almost KO'd. He's not a whole tier above Ortiz.
Tier 1: Povetkin, Joshua
Tier 2: Wilder, Ortiz, Parker, Pulev, Ruiz Jr.
Tier 3: Miller, Takam, Huey
Tier 4: Duhaupus, Browne, Whyte
Tier 5: Mansour, Breazeale, Kownacki, Kabayel, Charr, Chisora
Noteworthy prospects: Kuzmin, Hrgovic, Yoka, Dubois, ect.
Tier 1: Povetkin, Joshua
Tier 2: Wilder, Ortiz, Parker, Pulev, Ruiz Jr.
Tier 3: Miller, Takam, Huey

Povetkin Tier 1? I am assuming you mean a juiced up Povetkin, not the guy that was non-competitive against Wlad.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 19:14 Wilder barely got past Ortiz. Got outboxed and almost KO'd. He's not a whole tier above Ortiz.

Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
I completely disagree, but...after looking at your list (which really represents the top heavy's) the division is not as good as most say. AJ, Wilder and the rest, with AJ being the better boxer, but not necessarily the better fighter...we'll see. The next wave of Eastern Europeans and British heavy's like Dubois, may be interesting at the very least.Mexi-Box wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 19:14 Wilder barely got past Ortiz. How is Wilder Tier 2 from just beating Ortiz who almost stopped Wilder and was winning on points up till his stoppage.Tony1244 wrote: ↑10 Mar 2018, 11:15Good summary. tier two
Wilder
tier three
Parker
Ruiz
Hughie
Povetkin
Pulev
Takam
Miller
Ortiz
Parker has beaten Takam , Ruiz , Huggie on that list
Joshua has beaten just Takam .. also Klitschko who almost beat Joshua.
So Parker beaten 3 Tier 3 opponents
Joshua 2
Wilder 1
Seems to me like Parker is the best HW
Parker
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
I'd love to pick Parker, but that showing against Fury troubles me. I'm afraid it'll be like Mercer and Morrison...several good rounds for Parker and then...WHAM! LIghts out.
Re: Joshua made a huge mistake
There are some here that will not put Wilder into tier one over Joshua, even if he beats Joshua.
