It didn't end up doing Naz harm financially.
And Hatton made big bucks too
So you think that Naz and Hatton jibbing their established teams and employing family members worked out for them?
Do you think Hatton's career would have gone hugely differently without the changes? I don’t see him winning the fights he lost, do you? Same for Naz too, can’t see him beating Barrera whoever stood in his corner.

I think Hamed might have beaten Barrera if he was fit and focused but his head was all over the place by then. More to do with him than moving to Hearn senior though. Although Barry was following him around like a groupie in the infamous video.

I don't see Hatton beating Mayweather or Pacquiao. The trainer choice for Pacquiao was more relevant than the promoter, that was a shambles.

Promoter wasn't the reason they both lost though.

It seems Mcguigian has been found out recently.

I imagine Taylor will be watching him like a hawk from now on, until his contract runs out and he can jump ship.

Cyclone will struggle to sign fighters now, regardless of the outcome of this court case.

IMO Hatton would never have fought Mayweather and Pacquiao under Warren. He would have continued to fill the MEN and the Manchester City stadium in decent but easily winnable fights.

When has Warren ever delivered the absolute best for his established champions - Bruno aside (for Tyson) - and lets be honest Bruno was going to lose to his WBC Mandatory also (Lennox Lewis) - he was always never going to be a long reigning champ.

BJS - Still waiting.
Naz - Did not deliver the mega fights - good fights, but not the top mexicans. Always fights he was expected to win.
Hatton - So many opportunities before Tszyu.
Calzaghe - No. Yes he was close to getting Hopkins - but it didn't cross the line for whatever reason.

He wants his young, pre 30 champions to stay as champions for as long as possible.

So had Hatton stayed with Warren, no doubt he would have been a longer reigned champion - but not had those golden fights... Whether you think this was an error for Hatton or not is a different matter.

Aye that's a good point Stu. Lots of mediocre WBO defences on Frank's record around that time period.

I don't think it has really changed despite now having a big backer. I guess you could possibly say Smith vs Canelo - but that is really about it. The fact that we (as boxing fans) were practically having a wet dream about David Lemieux says a lot.

He's come "close" to delivering the big one of a few occassions, but somehow they always seem to alude him. Aparently GGG vs BJS will be a fight that can be made, but I will wait till GGG is in the ring before passing tipping my hat off.

I think hatton would of lasted longer than two rounds with manny if billy was in his corner.

What do you think he would have done differently?

I think he met Manny at the wrong time, I don’t think an earlier version of Hatton would have had any success that night.

That was the point I was making earlier - he boxed Tzyu at the perfect time (almost a case study in perfect timing) but without the experienced team guiding him he made some wrong decisions.

He would never have beaten Floyd in a month of Sundays whoever was promoting, managing or training him though - the fight needs to be judged for what it was, a money earner.

With Frank, instead of those 2 fights (and losses) he would have got him 5 defences at the MEN, earned more money and won them all.

Okay, I’m with you now.

Looking back it’s a fight that he didn’t even need. He’d cemented his place at LWW in beating Malignaggi and Manny had never fought there and moved full time to welter next, he needn’t have ever come down for Hatton to be honest. I imagine the money was better than anything on offer by a long way at the time. I think he genuinely fancied it too, De La Hoya was drained and a shell of his former self, don’t think he expected Manny to be so devastating. I certainly didn’t.

As you say, he didn't need these fights (and I am sure Frank would have guided him in another direction) but at the time he was having non of it, and between him and his dad they though they know best - from the matchmaking, to the training and making weight, non of which were on point.

I think that Hatton started to believe his own publicity too much (all this talk of fighting for the ring belt as best pound for pound boxer in the world stuff).

Hatton was a world-level boxer, but he was always a level below the likes of Manny and Floyd.

He also saw pound signs but couldn't think strategically in that although he earned well for those 2 fights, he could possibly have earned more for 5 different very-winnable fights.

Im not saying he would have won the fight or had any success but that hatton that turned up was a shell of the guy that fought mayweather, his confidence was shot to pieces. Mayweather senior didnt have any interest in hatton were as hatton to billy was like a son and he would of got him ready gradually were as mayweather had hatton peaking 2 weeks before the fight. You never know and its all opinions but this is my beliefs

Very true point,im with you on this. Hatton could of fought a victor ortiz a maidana etc etc etc and earned the same over these five fights and cemented his place as probably top 3 best british fighters ever. He is still high on my list for what he achieved btw but would of been higher in ither ppls eyes

Could have earned the same with 5 reasonable defences?! The Mayweather and Pac fights were both US PPV (which is where the crazy money is made) and none of those other fights would have been.

Hatton could have earned well from them with UK PPV and UK ticket sales but I wouldn’t have thought enough to cover his take on his 2 big US fights.

From memory his UK PPVs (Mayweather/Pac aside) were selling 300kish whilst he went to c.1m I think for Mayweather.

He could of fought devon alexander victor ortiz, zab judah, marcus maidana all in the states and still won earned well on US ppv, remember hatton was big in the states too,the yanks were picking him to beat floyd way back when he beat tyszu so he would of sold ppv over there

Hatton against all of those guys wouldn’t have been US PPV. They would have been strong normal Showtime/HBO fights and would have been UK PPVs but not more I don’t think.

His fights against Collazo and Castillo weren’t US PPV and I’d argue Castillo is just a bigger name as Alexander, Ortiz and Maidana (pre his fights with Mayweather).

When is the case going to court?
Is McGuigan disputing the claims?
