Re: Big Bear
It’s altitude training that made it a destination.
Very popular with Americans.
George Groves has done camps there, dunno which other British fighters have.

Re: Big Bear
That’s where Lennox used to train, right?
Re: Big Bear
Yeah Lewis trained there. Obviously most famous because Ali trained there. Did Barrera not train there for the Hamed fight?

Re: Big Bear
I believe so. I think that’s where the ‘Jeremy Williams Judo throw’ happened?
Re: Big Bear
De La Hoya owned a big training facility there which he used to prepare for his fights. I always associated Big Bear with him. I didn’t realise Ali used it as a training base too.
Re: Big Bear
Ali is synonymous with Deer Lake, Big Bear only started in the 90s so i doubt Ali trained there.
Re: Big Bear
I was getting deer lake and sonny liston mixed up in my head!
Re: Big Bear
GGG trains there as well I believe.... must have good, natural meat

I think Shane Mosley trained there
Re: Big Bear
Altitude, it’s almost twice the height of Ben Nevis.
Focus, it’s completely cut off from, well, anywhere. Once you’re there that’s all there is until you’re done .

Re: Big Bear
The altitude is very helpful for fighting
Re: Big Bear
You really should be training at high altitude and recovering at low altitude to maximise the benefits but it doesn't seem to be going GGG or Gassiev too much harm.
Apparently Arreola had one training camp there and felt like he was being held hostage so the solitude won't suit everyone.

I read a British Fighter went out there but soon came back as they found it so toughShirow wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 09:11 You really should be training at high altitude and recovering at low altitude to maximise the benefits but it doesn't seem to be going GGG or Gassiev too much harm.

Re: Big Bear

I think Paul Ingle went there with Lennox during their Maloney days. Paul got homesick. That's not unusual for him. He'd get homesick for Scarborough when he was training in Hull.Tommyscc wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 09:37I read a British Fighter went out there but soon came back as they found it so toughShirow wrote: ↑18 Mar 2018, 09:11 You really should be training at high altitude and recovering at low altitude to maximise the benefits but it doesn't seem to be going GGG or Gassiev too much harm.

Barrera trained there for the Naz fight. I think it helped him a bit.

Audley Harrison trained there, I think for the haye fight. Worked well.
Re: Big Bear
I remember some huge Puerto Rican heavyweight in that camp trying convince us all how brilliant Harrison was going to be.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑19 Mar 2018, 08:20 Audley Harrison trained there, I think for the haye fight. Worked well.

Re: Big Bear
Yeah, there was a short documentary on his time there. Think Audley had that knack of convincing folk how brilliant he was no matter how much evidence to the contrary.Tommyscc wrote: ↑19 Mar 2018, 15:55I remember some huge Puerto Rican heavyweight in that camp trying convince us all how brilliant Harrison was going to be.Bigdogsnose wrote: ↑19 Mar 2018, 08:20 Audley Harrison trained there, I think for the haye fight. With big gloves, headguard and mediocre partners I imagine he looked the business in sparring more than once.
It was only under the pressure of big occasions against decent opponents that he fell to pieces.
