Groves' future in doubt?
Groves' future in doubt?
This is the first I've heard about it... have I missed something?

Re: Groves' future in doubt?
I don't see why Groves would be retiring. His injury isn't that severe to my knowledge.
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
Take anything Kevin Mitchell says with a pinch of salt. He scored Groves-Eubank to Eubank.

Groves-DeGale 1 wasn't 'terrific' either. It was ok. Same as every other fight when they know each other inside out.

Or he just plucked a false narrative out of thin air in order to create a better story.
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
Mitchell’s ability to write a good story about fighters has always been in complete contrast to his utter inability to score a fight.
Given that I accept the latter, treating his fight reports as fanciful, I enjoyed the De Gale piece

ive never liked his work in any respect
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
ImagineBut it was all very low-key. Even the seasoned and reliable Showtime ring announcer, John Lennon Jr, described DeGale as “once again the IBF super-bantamweight champion of the world”. The last time DeGale made 8st 10lb he more than likely was arguing with Groves over sparring slots at the Dale Youth Club.
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
I wouldn't even go as far to say DeGale vs Groves was ok....it was a dull sparring session.

Mitchell looks worse the longer this thread goes on! Was it also him who scored Pacquiao-Mayweather to Pacquiao?
I think the only bit of genuinely new information he seems to have is that the shoulder is responding slowly to treatment. Which doesn't bode too well for the Super Series final. Everything else is supposition.
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
For arguments sake.
If Groves was to retire, does that mean that Zeuge would be upgraded to full WBA champion and likely placed into the WBSS final against Smith?

I'm sure Gallagher would disagree
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
Off topic but Mitchell's tennis book Break Point was a great read.

It was a very serious injury he had...all dislocations are career threatening if you ask me.
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
Dead right ,,, I know from experience , i damaged my shoulder years ago , It was never the same till this day its not right , I was'nt boxing at the time , but after it was supposedly fixed , there would definetly never ever be a chance of it coming good enough to step between the ropes , not at a serious level anyway , But i do know others who had a similar injury and they were fine , after rehab and rest
Re: Groves' future in doubt?
Colin McMillan and Dean Francis were never the same again. I remember Francis boxing Matthew Barney years after and not throwing a single right hand for 12 rounds.
On the other hand Danny Williams and Jean Pascal continued there careers without any obvious issue.
Until he gets the all clear and starts using it again it’s surely just pure speculation.

I watched that Williams v Potter fight last night funnily enough. Never gets oldKit wrote: ↑11 Apr 2018, 14:40 Colin McMillan and Dean Francis were never the same again. I remember Francis boxing Matthew Barney years after and not throwing a single right hand for 12 rounds.

If I decided to be cynical.
I could see Groves stating his injury is worse than expected, Sauerland throwing Braehmer-Smith WBSS final.
Then a unification late summer Groves-DeGale.
