Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Is there any MW past or present that you would favor over GGG?
I would favor RJJ and Toney over him.

Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
I'd fancy quite a lot to beat him prime for prime.
Whilst I think he's a good champion I think he's over rated historically because of the number of defences he's had against comparatively weak opposition in this era.
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
hopkins clowns him
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Very difficult to compare eras. GGG would give BHOP, Monzon, Hagler and Toney problems. Impossible to say who’d come out on top prime for prime but fcuking great fights.
RJJ was more 168.

Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Obviously any of the Greats would be live dogs against him. Robinson, Monzon, Hagler, Greb...whatever.
I'd be curious to know how he'd fare against tough, durable pressure fighters like Jake Lamotta and Gene Fullmer. We've never really seen anybody back up Golovkin all throughout a bout, it'd be interesting if these guys could.

Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
even jermain taylor wouldve had a very good chance to beat him
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Nobody is clowning GGG. He might lose a fire fight was Hagler or Monzon and could be outboxed by BHOP or Toney, but any of those fight are pick’ems.
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Robinson beats GGG; that’s a certain in my book. The others, impossible to tell really.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 17:46 Obviously any of the Greats would be live dogs against him. Robinson, Monzon, Hagler, Greb...whatever.

Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
danny jacobs easily couldve gotten the decision, taylor had plenty of speed and enough skill to give ggg the same type of problems. ggg is plodding and easy to hit even for lower level opponents
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
I rate Jacobs a lot more than Taylor. The only recent fighter who had a shot to beat GGG was Pirog.
Can I just ask all; who was BHOPS best win at 160?

Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Not that great really. Tito jumped up from Super Welter (had only one fight at 160) and The Road Warrior had a few loses when they fought. RJJ also beat him at 160 and he lost Taylor.
I’d take GGG wins over Jacobs and Canelo (he won on my card).
I think Robinson, Hagler and Monzon have better records or at least better wins, at 160 than GGG and BHOP.
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
I would agree but would add that Hopkins' opposition at middleweight would be a deeper talent pool than Golovkin's overall.Loki wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 18:16Not that great really. No as a matter of fact Hopkins was the first person to ever defeat Glen Johnson. Glen was 32-0 heading into that one.Loki wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 18:16Not that great really. I guess I should check BoxRec before posting. I could’ve sworn he’d lost a few early fights. I stand corrected. But, I still take GGG win over Jacobs and the W he should’ve got over Canelo.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 18:30No as a matter of fact Hopkins was the first person to ever defeat Glen Johnson. Shame Monzon and Hagler missed each other; slightly different eras.gilgamesh wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 18:30They absolutely doLoki wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 18:16Not that great really. Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
On top of some of the ones mentioned, I'd include Bob Fitzsimmons.
Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Yeah I had him beating Canelo wider than he beat Jacobs personally.Loki wrote: ↑10 May 2018, 18:32I guess I should check BoxRec before posting. I could’ve sworn he’d lost a few early fights. Records don't fight in the ring. The only guys I would give chances against Golovkin are Hagler and Leonard.

Re: Who would beat Golovkin at MW, past or present?
Canelo today. Maybe Charlo. Possibly Saunders.
All time.....Hagler, Monzon, Valdes, Benvenuti, Hopkins, LaMotta, Toney (Nunn probably) and SRR.
Greb sounds like he whups Golovkin but I've never seen him in action so I hesitate to include him in these hypothetical discussions.
But Greb would really have Golovkin whining. He was one of the dirtiest guys ever and he was very effective with his treachery.
