I don't think George will be losing too much sleep over this. Smith doesn't have a belt and
when he's fit he can probably fight whoever he wants these days and make decent money.

If I could buy Eubank for what he's worth and sell him for what he THINKS he's worth, I'd be rich.

Also he will have learned a lot against Groves too.

What makes you think that?

He didn't learn from the Saunders defeat & went onto lose to Groves in much the same way.

Eubank Jr doesn't listen to his trainers, so I'm not optimistic about him learning anything.

Eubanks has and will continue to waste his talent. You can't teach someone that knows everything.

Wonder how much money this will cost Groves?

How much will it make Eubank?

Should wait for the right final. Makes it all a bit pointless.

I think it depends on who's able to control the range for the most part. Smith's tall frame should be made for Eubank on the inside, but with Eubank's lack of straights, along with his slow footwork and poor head movement, he's made for Smith on the outside.

As the better boxer, I'd favour Smith to keep it at his preferred range more often than not. It's a tougher fight for him than Holzken, but a similar approach. Eubank's greatest strength is that you can't dent his workrate; he's relentless, and if you can't make him pay then you're in danger.

But yeah, I think Smith's too skilful to outpoint if he's on his game, and he's solid enough to cope with Eubank's power unless it's delivered in unexpected volume. (That last sentence reads like Big Ron!)

He did alright.
He lost both.

Saunders he lost despite Saunders gassing at midway.

Groves he lost with ease, a simple half step back and to the side of eubank and he was flummoxed. Missed all night long with wild swings because groves outboxed him.

He certainly didn't do alright v groves

If we have to have a sub for whatever reason (business model dictating each season finishes before the next etc) then throw good money at David Benavidez or Jose Uzcategui, maybe even get Gilberto Ramirez's opponent to take some step aside money.

How about Degale? He wants a big domestic fight.

I can see that on ITV Box Office. Could do some decent numbers.

It certainly makes the whole contest format pointless.

Especially when ITV are expecting you to pay £15 to watch Callum Smith fight the loser from a semi-final.

To play devils advocate, whilst he absolutely doesn't deserve the opportunity, its at least a much more interesting fight than any of the other likely replacements

What's more worrying is that clearly this is a significant injury and I'm starting to wonder whether it might be the beginning of the end for Groves....... as a fan it would be very sad indeed.

I think that the PPV numbers will plummet now and I suspect that they did everything in order to accommodate Groves' injury knowing that......... the fact that they've been unable to suggests the severity of the injury.

One of my favourite fighters. I hope he can come back from it. Hope he doesn't rush things.

On one hand, this might be a blessing for him. Give him a chance vto fully recover rather than rushing back before he's healed.

Shame no Groves - but good domestic dust up. I can see the Smith that took out Fielding getting Eubank out of there. Prince Naz' said after Groves' win that he was gets the moral winner of the comp, and tend to agree with him.
I think it's unfortunate but the right thing to do by putting in a substitute rather than wait months and months.
I hope Groves can come back. Informed forum posters are suggesting the shoulder injury may even be career ending, if that's the case I'm grateful for the several great nights Groves has given us.

I feel in the circumstances that this is the best that can happen. 12 months ago we would have thought great fight.

I am looking forward to it.

Bad luck for GG. I hope his career isn't over.
