Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
its really cute how kalan once heard an actual boxing person who is actually involved in the sport use the word '45' to describe a punch, and kalan now tries to use it as much as possible, to try to make people think he, too is an actual boxing person actually involved in the sport
almost as cute as him describing sparring sessions as though he was actually there
but not nearly as funny as that one time, when he said Chris Eubank jr is one of the smartest fighters in the whole of boxing history
and poor silly old kalan still spouts his stuff as though someone may take him seriously...
kalan, dude, give it up. we've seen Chris Eubank jr. we've seen his lack of head movement, his awful footwork, his inability to throw the most basic punch in boxing, the jab. and 'great boxing intellect' kalan said he's one of the smartest of all time.
buddy you can't pretend to have credibility, nobody who knows boxing could call that putz a smart fighter in any era, never mind one of the smartest of all time.
i guess what happened was, one time Eubank threw a '45', and kalan thought to himself, 'only boxing connoiseurs know about this secret and deadly blow, Eubank must be real smart'

LMFAO!!!!! You are spot on! Kalan believes he's the Grand High Exalted Grand Poobah of Boxing. (GHEGPB). I'm guessing. See what he does here?Kalan wrote: ↑15 May 2018, 01:45 From all reports Errol Spence knocked the living shitt out of Floyd in sparring.... Floyd held his left hand low (like Leonard did)... Floyd tried to do the shoulder roll under Spence's right hooks and it didn't work for a second... Spence is a lot taller and stronger and just chopped down on Floyd.
Spence slugged Floyd with short ripping right hooks which he drove right down on his temple and ear as Floyd tried to roll the hooks... At the same time Spence ripped Floyd with straight lefts, left hooks, left 45's, and left uppercuts... Floyd tried his best to grab Errol... .
this is a common Kalan technique. 'from all reports...', IE Kalan hasn't seen it
yet see the later tone- a man trying to (falsely) speak with great authority, as though he was there, as to what transpired in that spar.
he never says 'I can imagine', he uses very definite factual, or more accurately quasi-factual language, 'Spence chopped down.. slugged Floyd... ripped Floyd...Floyd grabbed Errol'
so the basic dissonance is that as an attempt to posture and puff himself up as knowledgeable, he uses misleading language, lots of verbs, implying he has actually seen something that he really hasn't seen at all.
it isnt quite lying. its just extremely disingenuous, but then we have come to expect that from silly old duffer kalan... a man who can claim Eubank jr as one of the smartest fighters of all time and then still have the nerve to pose as some kind of expert

Savage young thug
knocked on his can
battered to the canvas
beaten up
battered with right hands
meat hammered eye
looking like a fighting dog
crushing right hooks
ripping 45 left handers
beat the living FUK
later he comes in with FLATTENED (not flattened, but FLATTENED!)
Is this what passes for intelligent debate?
Pitiful.

Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
Compare the names you just mentioned of Spence opponents vs SRL opponents...and we can't have a boxing discussion if you think Spence is stronger the Hagler....that's just pure lunacy..
Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
I haven't watched Monzon in so long, I've hesitated to put my 2 cents in here.
But he did lose some decisions close to his prime, So my uninformed opinion here is Leonard decision.

Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
He only lost two and they were early in his career. He won like the last 73 or so fights. Pick again! LoL!
Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
I believe he avenged those losses as well?
Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
Also, absolutely disagree with Miles......Kalan is no troll, he does however troll on many folks minds by merely expressing his odd and minority opinion, with such authoritative gusto. I suggest we gird up our cerebrums and never let an overly opinionated passionate communicator lead you/us astray.

Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
He lost to:
1 -Lost to Antonio Aguilar (pts)-------He won (Ko5; Ko9 Pts10:
2 - Lost to Felipe Cambeiro (pts 8)-----He won pts 8
3 - Lost to Alberto Massi (pts10)--------He won (pts10; pts10; tko8)
The last loss was in his 20th fight if I'm not mistaken, so with an overall record of 87-3-9, He won his last 67 fights in a row, against some of the best of all time. My only regret was to not see Monzon face Valdes in both of their primes. Monzon was already aging for both fights. He was over 32 (which was old back then for the most part).

Re: Carlos Monzon V. Ray Leanard.
In his day Monzon was considered a "big" middleweight. At 5'11 he was long and lean. And very strong. He was awkward but was very accurate with his punches.
Against the middleweights of the last 40 years he doesn't appear that big any longer. I wonder how he would handle fighters his size or bigger who are quicker and more athletic than him.
Monzon will always be rated near the top of historical rankings but I can see him getting out boxed by quicker men that are as strong and tough as him. Think Hopkins or Roy Jones for example.
I wouldn't put Ray Leonard in that category. Not at middleweight. He might not have been big enough to handle Monzon.
