Yeah the stomach cramps excuse was seen as just that at the time - an excuse - and for a long time after too - pretty much no one bought it in fact, including his long time trainer the great Ray Arcel ( who, I think, quit boxing as a result and never mentioned Duran having a case of the runs )
Fact is, Duran had barely laid a glove on Leonard and was getting soundly out boxed and humiliated. Looked more like a case of Duran growing more and more frustrated as the master class went on, and finaly lost his mind and threw it away in a moment of insanity.
